Title: Battery light on mk2 16v
Post by: dazandjude on 25 November 2009, 10:34
I have just returned to mk2 golfs, I'm currently on my 4th mk2 golf. This one has a battery light problem though.

The light comes on with the ignition, when you start the car it doesn't go out but goes very dim and then gradually gets brighter again. Its charging at about 14v and the light does sometimes go out. The battery is brand new.

Help!!!

pop the brush pack off the back of the alternator and give it a clean up, and check the brushes have some meat left on em.  oh and clean all your battery/starter/alternator cables.

I thought about the alternator, I got a spare when I got the car but that one doesn't even get the battery light to turn on when you 1st turn the ignition on and doesn't put out any charge!!
Found that out in the rain this afternoon!
