Depends what you class as rare, alot of them rotted away.

You will see quite a few of us on there.
The small back light cars are often talked about as mark1 series1 cars.

get some pics up is it a 4speed? series 1 are becoming rarer especially the 1.6 as snoopy said most rotted.
what problems you got im sure we'll be able to help
-
hi guys, yes its a 4 speed i think i know all bar the revolution alloys its as it came out ofthe factory but it will need lots of work im going to go to the garage at the weekend and smash the pad lock off ( its been a while since its seen light ) AND HAVE A BETTER LOOK IT MAY WELL BE SCRAP!!! BUT NOT IF IT CAN BE SAVED im a steal fabby so i can make most bits if needed, i will let you know how it is chris

the 1.6 is much more rev happy than the 1.8 and the 4speed box has a taller 2nd gear than the 5speed so you only need 1 change to hit 60
fingers crossed its not bad at all, i would expect there to be fuel issues if not started for a long time, also do an oil change before trying to start and turn engine over by hand with plugs out and put a few drops of oil inthe cylinders
have a search on here there's a thread knocking about of recommisioning stored vehicle or it maybe on mk1golf
where are you btw?

hi opened the garage the other day!!! it looks sad it is covered in tiny little rust spots all over, but it looks worse than it is the car is looks solid on the underside and in the boot and under the bonnet, the car was put in there because there was piston slap and it was burnning oil, i took the head off and left it, it needs a new drivers seat on the inside the rest is as new abit grubby. i will be needing all new brakes, and suspension are these parts still avaliable and will need a fresh engine if anyone ideas where i can get these parts please give me a shout. iv been given a price of £150 to blast the shell which sounds good to me sounds like a summer project  chris

Keep it and restore it, not many left now.

Restore it to original I had two 1600's when they were new.... brilliant cars and I think rare if original and not a shed... small lights, different dash, amazing
my old car...

Look good, why not give the engine full rebuild? Cos 1.6 engine are much rarer these days. Good luck restore to former gory!

I'll offer it again...
I have a very quick 1.6 eg lump up for grabs soon, may even come with the orignal 5 spd box if required. Both have been re-built. The Engine has all new everything, including a reasonable amount of tweakage. I've spent a LOT of money on this, so sensible offers only if your interested, may also have some cheep MK1 suspension too if it helps?
