Title: Brake Light Switch Burning Hot!!!
Post by: sharki786 on 24 November 2009, 20:47
Hi people i have a golf mk3 gti 8v, since i replaced the brake light switch i notice a TICK kind of noise after an hour or so, like a element switching off. I got the part from gsf and since i replaced it, sometimes when i press my brake pedel the brake lights dont come on so i have to pull over and move it a bit and it will start working, its an intermitant prob but today when i heard that tick noise i thought that the switch move again so when i touched it, it was burning hot which got me worried. is this normal or should i go back to gsf and have a word with them? also i have checked it many times to see why it keeps moving and i cant seem to figure it out apart from that the switch is a copy and thats my prob? anyone else have a simular issue?

any replys welcome.

Thanks in advance

sounds like crappy quality parts to me, but then ive not tried feeling my switch after a run

is it definitly adjusted properly? you need to yank the plunger in the middle out with the brake pedal pressed, then release the pedal to adjust.  id be in scrappy looking for another if problems continue, or get down to VW:

well theres not much adjustment to it as its a direct fit, iv tried my best to adjust it and it moves after a few presses of the brake.

yeah the pin is on a ratchet, you extend it then let the brake pedal adjust it back as far as needed.  if the pedal is moving it to the right spot I'd just say its a poor quality pattern part and should be binned!
