i have an MK3 and love it...
its only a 1.4 so its nothing special
but what if i had say countless amounts of money..
what would the best engine that could possibly fit in it?
would it be worth it or would it not just be better to get an MK3 with a bigger engine and tune it?

Nope, better to get a bigger engine car.

Best Mk3 is a VR6 Highline. Or just engine wise any VR6.
Insurance will be higher on a modified car that a standard one.
Yes you can fit a 16v abf or VR6 engine in your car but why bother when you can buy the real deal.

It was part of my argument against engine swaps! I do try to be consistant!
I mean if I wanted a totally standard Mk3 I would definitely find myself a VR6 Highline.

the VR6 Highline looks like the right place to start thanks guys
-
Depends what you want to do really, when it comes to the car, the highline doesnt have any more performace, just some leather and trim painted different colours etc, extra airbag, boring things like that.
-
if it was a bottomless bank the n it would be a R36. yeah baby...

GL's don't have GTI trim? iirc only the SE had GTI trim
And the difference between a CL and a GL is 2 extra doors and an extra 25bhp
-
I thought shady has a GL? And it has gti trim?
-
Go take another look then! Shadys car has the same trim as mine

Not really, RS2600 and RS3100 mk1's were awesome and in high demand these days as the mk3 Tickford Turbo and 280 Brooklands.

Talking of fords....I had a few classics
Mk1 Escort 1300e with a silly 1640cc x/flow running about 125bhp (and no grip when wet..but she drank lots of fuel with webber 40's fitted )
mk2 Escort Rs Mexico (a genuine one worth £££ now and I had to scrap it as nobody wanted to buy it!!)
mk3 Capri 2.0s In diamond white with grey bottom half (and rust)
and then I moved to my xr stage which lasted years :lipsrsealed: (and i even owned an xr2 that was stolen after 4 days)
but vw project wise I'm looking at something at the moment that should be good fun :undecided: :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

You should educate yourself Joe!
To give it its full name it is the Consul Classic Capri. It is the most beautiful car Ford GB has ever made!
have a look here - http://www.fccoc.org.uk/
-
lol but they look like sh!te and I've been told they handle like it too
-
I also love the old Escorts....my last one was a 1.6 ghia with full rs running gear and 2.1 pinto. Went like stink and great fun but could not hold a head gasket....had a thicker copper one put in and this lasted 2 months. Sold it to a guy up Scotland and miss it sooooo much. Put the RS 4 spoke alloys on it and bought front bucket seats and had them re upholstered to match the rest of the interior, held you in lovely, great car, cheap to insure, used fuel but more fun than most modern cars. Could not afford to get one now though!!!!!!! Deano

It also had a naff 1500cc engine but hey I wasnt saying it was a great car just the best looking!
