Title: Keeping my Edition 30
Post by: woodster on 23 November 2009, 20:43
Been taking a serious look at the Golf R. I was clsoe to ordering but bottled it at the last minute. Have decided to keep my Edition 30 for another 12 months
and then have another look round. To get the feel good factor again - I am going to be hunting the forums for some mod ideas over the next few nights.
Ones I have in mind are speaker upgrade, revo and exhaust and new bulbs.  If anyone can point me in the right direction for any of these, that would be great.
I will start searching the forum now.

Another couple of problems I have is the need to replace the tyres - thinking of going for Michelins plus I have some scuffed wheels - can these be repaired at all?
I know I am being lazy and the answers are all here somewhere.

Cheers

Woody

Both the main and high beam headlights use H7 bulbs.

I'm in the same quandry as you about the Ed30.......going back to a 'normal' GTi is just wrong, and the R is just too much money, so my fingers are crossed that VW will be following with their usual tradition and we'll see an Edition35 soon!!

An edition 35 will be along in late 2011/early 2012, so you'll be keeping the moter for at least another 2 years

For me the MK6 GTI isn't as much of a step forward development as the MKIV to MKV was. Sure it has some extra trick bits available, but that is all they are. The essence of the MKV still lives in the MKVI and that is the chassis/suspension. The engine lives on from the Edition 30 into the Scirocco R and Golf R, so why would someone swap an Edition 30 for one of these at such a huge price difference I don't know, unless it is just to get the newest, latest thing. :undecided:

I like the MKVI, but for Edition 30 owners it isn't so much of a step forward as a step back to a standard MKVI GTI. I would also say that the Scirocco R and Golf R would be  a step forward, but I don't personally believe it is enough of a step forward to justify the change

A couple of standard Mkvi's have clocked 220+bhp on the rollers so maybe moving from an ED30 to a MK6 wouldn't be a backwards move? My Mk6 is revo'd to 275 and am very happy with it.

Well then yours isn't standard is it.

Most people won't remap their MKIV for fear of invalidateing their warrenty. If you want new bulbs go on www.powerbulbs.com as you get a 10% forum discount ;)

I also share the same view as Hurdy, the extra cost of going to a MKIV is just too much for such a small upgrade. Plus I don't have the money lol

No mine isn't standard but was clocking almost 225 as standard. So some MkVI's stock could be as quick as ED30's.

i saw a mk6 at the weekend owned by a nice guy called chris, who has had the car about a month was an ex demo and he has no modifications at all yet and he got the same power as i did when mine was standard 224bhp. wether his will go up to 300 with a map and filter like mine is now, im not so sure. but still interesting that the fsi's may be a secret weapon

Wont be as high as 275 after a remap because it has the smaller k03 turbo.Remember the k04 Twin scroll Turbo has a much tuning potential then the smaller single scroll K03.

260's is very likely though. Agree with Nick, saw that Mk6 run on a dyno Dynamics setup and they are a prooven setup.

Yes I know RR's vary, up and down.

No-one ever knows their true figure but based on the fact that that other standard Mk6 clocked over 220 it's not inconceivable that mine did as well. His was an ex demo? So probably driven hard from new which is what I did with mine.

Anyway, whatever the numbers, the car is impressively quick for a minor modded car.
