so what's your thing with shadow blue?

Post by: Snoopy on 23 November 2009, 13:34
Shadow blue is what i ordered. Its alot darker and in some lights looks quite dull and borring and non metallic but when the sun really hits it i like the way it sparkles. Alot of passats etc are shadow blue and its a bit purplish blue.

but you said that if you were ordering today, you might order graphite blue  -  which do you prefer? I might go for the graphite blue  -  a bit more lively than pearl black, easier to keep clean that pearl black and candy white, not as many around, not too bright as to be brashy/flashy  -  yup, might be the one.

what's your take on leather  -  I want to be strict with myself and stick to the 'jac' cloth  -  it's more Gti than the leather....

Thanks for the advice

Im like you i keep changing my mind

I think if i ordered today i may go for red. BUT the reason i don't go for base reds on cars is a few of my family members are ex fireman i know the ribbing i would get especially if i visited my dad  for buying fire engine red. Ever watch the program 'Londons burning', thats how they are in real life, p1ss takers, windup merchents etc and i know the ribbing i would get for buying red!

Blue graphite is a colour thats really grown on me in time and i do like it.

The reason i went for Shadow blue is why i said above but i will tell you the real reason i made that choice in the end

Im hopless at making colour choices i will admit, and in the past when i could not make my mind up i got my other half to choose and in time i learned she was always right! Just don't tell her that

Oh leather,
I would advise you have a look at photos of a few year old mk5's on the used car section of VW.co.uk and on this site at them. To see how it wares.

I have a few old 50s and 60s classic cars and they had what i would class as proper leather, its just not the same now. mainly as alot of it is bull leather not cow and when you have been in cars with connerly leather you start to know what leather is.

The leathers only on certain parts of the seat, imitation leather is used on bits that won't touch your skin. This is cutting corners imo especially at the price, just think how many leather sofas at DFS you could buy for the price VW charge for leather!

The leather to me is nice when new but it creases too easily and can sag if your not the smallest person in the world.

Its cold in winter even with heated seats and hot in summer, it does add abit of class but i decided on the more colourfull brighter easier to look after cloth.

Its a personal choice i know people think im mad for buying such an expensive car without it, others like the cloth for the retro look.

Hi, Snoopy  -  my eldest son and wife (two separate people!) want me to get black  -  neither like white (I'm only getting the winter pack for them as they like the seat warmers)  -  the p black and c white are going to be everywhere and have the cleanliness problem  -  I like carbon grey (more than the steel gray) (a bit different) but maybe a bit dull though I guess easier to keep clean than white and black)  -  I like red, don't have your problem with it but it might also be a bit 'flat'  -  silver is everywhere on the road on many cars  -  leaves the blues  -  no disrespect but I prefer the blue graphite  -  just a preference thing  -  so, by a process of elimination....

and what's your take on leather....?

I too have been thinking long and hard about colour for my GTI or R.

I used to own a Windsor Blue VR6 before I became a BMW and later an Audi fan. Now i find myself coming back to VW and I don't like either Shadow Blue or Graphite Blue. I looked at Rising Blue, but feel that this isn't quite right either.

I am coming to the conclusion that only 3 colours will really stand the test of time - Black, Carbon Black and United Grey.

you and I think alike, Snoopy  -  I agree with you on the leather  -  it'll be cloth for me  -  I also think the cloth seats are more supportive for the driver's back. I think I'd regret the leather after a while. I have heard it said that the cloth clashes with colours except for white, black, red and silver  -  I'd have thought it'd be ok with the blues...??

black hard to keep clean and too many around  -  what's carbon black? I like carbon grey but might be a bit lifeless  - united grey, what's that? I think, via process of elimination....graphite blue  -  not too dark/dull, not too flashy  -  might be just right...

United grey is the colour to have if you don't want to be cleaning your car regularly. I had a car in this shade of grey and it never looked as dirty as other colours. Blue graphite also hides the dirt quite well.

I have heard it said that the cloth clashes with colours except for white, black, red and silver  -  I'd have thought it'd be ok with the blues...??

The red check interior doesn't clash with any of the GTI colours - I checked with my wife

Steel grey and United grey are very similar. This is the car I had which always looked clean:

it's a good looking gray  -  I just think I prefer the darker, heavier carbon gray  -  but I'm tempted to go for the blue graphite  -  kind of has the gray but the blue gives it a bit of life, a bit of a lift

^ Know what you meen,
It will also be a rarer colour looking at other places like Germany were theres loads of in order of amount  Black, white, carbon, red for sale.
Looking at the mk5 too its not a common colour on the GTI either.
Carbon of cause is unique to the GTI and GTD but there are a few about.

Alot of people try and talk others out of blues especially dealerships but its nice to be different and not follow the crowd.
Dealerships and people try to talk buyers out of buying the blues saying there 'not GTI colours' this i always find so funny  as the most sort after colour for the mk1 Golf GTI is Helios Blue! ...a colour very similar to graphite blue infact

Colours a personal thing go with what you and your family like not what others do is my recomendation.

No offense to anyone on here who owns a graphite blue, but James honestly don't go for that colour if I were you and you really want black I'd go for the carbon grey it is well nice and looks smart with the jacara cloth.

I would have gone for carbon grey if I hadn't decided on the black.  There is a grey one down the road from here and it is really really smart looking.  Never looks as dirty as mine.

Snoopy and GW

GW might have a point, Snoopy  -  if i was going to have black but have concerns, carbon gray might be the safer way to go...

James

Have a look back through some of the postings on here and you will find pics of FroGti carbon grey GTI I would post them up but failed miserably when I tried to do that with Simonpollys pics.

Anyways Frogs car is lovely even though he has some different alloys on to the monzas.

I don't think you'll regret it if you change your mind and go with carbon grey, let us know what you decide.

Come on, James, don't listen to GW.  Blue Graphite is subtle and sophisticated and really makes your GTi that bit classier.

Are you sure it'll be a smack around the chops?  How about a kick in the nuts instead?  Or pehaps a cheeky headbutt?  Perhaps you ought to start a thread to ask for advice?
