What's easier to live with (cleanliness-wise) - pearl black or candy white? Is carbon grey easier?

Deep Pearl Black
- Looks great when clean
- Shows dirt, gets dirty quickly
- Susceptible to swirl marks
Candy White
- Looks great when clean
- Shows dirt and gets dirty quickly, but not as bad as black
- Not susceptible to swirl marks
Carbon Grey
- Looks good when clean
- Hides dirt pretty well - not as good as silver
- Moderately susceptible to swirl marks
- Bit boring
-
I would say white will look cleanist longer just goes gray like white vans  but i think white is now far too common and much more so than black at this time. I also like the black better as it gives it a more upmarket look. It also stops people thinking you simply bought another white good.
From your other thread,
My personal choice if i was re-ordering today after seeing loads and loads and loads of GTIs and mk6 golfs my personal colour choice would be between
Black pearl (looks great but pain to keep clean, but to me makes the car look classy and upmarket)
Red (not a colour i would normally go for but i think it really really works on the mk6 for some reason, and its easy to look after)
Graphite blue. (a colour that after looking out of my works window for a month has really grown on me the way it changes colour. Its sort of inbetween the black and red for looking after, and maybe looks a bit more expensive than the red, also its different and thats another reason i like it)
-
My 05 gti is diamond black(i got it second hand) if i could have found a candy white at the time i would have gone for that.
-
thanks, Snoopy - I think I agree about white - too many around - pearl black worries me re cleanliness - silver is easier to keep clean but a bit boring - what about carbon grey? probably easier to keep clean but a bit boring? I have considered graphite blue - I might settle on that - not too bright as to be brash but not too dark as to be boring - might clask with cloth colours but should be ok - red does look good but I think I want something with more of a 'spark'
-
Snoopy - see my 'cloth colour fade' post (12.48pm)
-
We bought 3-dr white, love it, looks brill and glad we bought the golf instead of the RS..... BUT kinda wish we had bought carbon grey now.
-
Whilst both colours will show dirt, black will show road salt in the winter and dust in the summer - very annoying to find a layer of sut on a black car hours after cleaning it ! White is more tolerant to cleaning (ie not going to show swirls etc from bad cleaning techniques).
Red hides dirt well - thought i'd throw that one in since you obviously still haven't decided what to put on the order form.
-
decided today - carbon gray
-
everything is decided now....and going for carbon gray
-
James you still not ordered ? thought you were getting the order faxed to sign ?
-
I guess they told him he had X amount of weeks to change his mind
-
told them to wait till decided on colour - can order now
-
if you look at the mk5 gti then black is the most common colour by far. White ones are hard to come across and seem to fetch a premium over all others
Dont know if this will remain the case with the MK6... but white does look good and gets alot less dirty compared to my old black one.
-
thnx - decision made: carbon black.

thnx - decision made: carbon black.
Not pearl ?
-
no, Kev - too concerned on the dirt/cleaning front -
candy white - I'm just not convinced that it's me - great colour, looks great but just not for me
considered the silver and the blues but have decided on carbon gray.
-
it was a toss up between carbon grey and white when i was ordering
-
it wasn't that I thought the white looked bad - it looks good - but it's just not me.
no leather for you?

Go on, James, you know you want to....
Rolfe.
-
Rolfe!! Stop it!!! I shall not be swayed - carbon grey!
-
i thought you said carbon black?
black is by far the coolest colour. it might show up the dirt a little more than the grey, but that gives you the incentive to clean the car and treat it well. remember that the grey will be just as dirty, but since you won't clean it as often, the dirt will stay on your paintwork for longer.... with whatever adverse affects that may have.
black is also best for resale, much easier to sell on.
finally, grey is the colour of john major....
-
it wasn't that I thought the white looked bad - it looks good - but it's just not me.
no leather for you?
no leather for me this time. got leather with my current motor (Mk5 GT Sport TSI 170) and i am quite looking forward going back to the cloth seats. I have been happy with the leather just fancy a change back again.

surely you mean grey?
i test drove the carbon grey... it looked kinda greeny in certain light conditions...
-
gossa - these attempts to get me to change my mind are predictable - I like carbon grey and I'm comfortable with my choice - you're all wind up merchants - now use your energies to better effect, you lot, by switching to Sky Sports 1 and get behind Newcastle....SCORED!
-
Carbon Grey is monochrome and uninteresting and John Major.
Blue Graphite looks like Carbon Grey in certain lights, but then you realise there's sooooooo much more to it than that....
Rolfe.
-
Red
-
Rolfe and orca - you not got anything else to do besides winding me up?!
