I changed them a few weeks back and did not take to the colours so changed them again this weekend. Not very hard to keep between 20 and 40 to be honest!!!!!!!!!!  They look a bit loud in the pictures but on the car look a lot better.     Deano

did you make them as the green colour with standard readings would look better i think..

Had them done for me and I fitted them. I just think the standard dials have too much on them and wanted to go simpler. May not keep them yet as I have to change the clocks shortly as my MFA is not working so thought I had nothing to lose in testing it out on these clocks.      Cheers     Deano

i kind of like them, although im sure the picture doesnt do them justice.

Just taking a shot in the dark here, but do speedos need to indicate certain marks (such as 1mph markings)...if you get me.

The bits around the lcd displays were neatly tucked away around the back when I put them back together but overnight came loose and now look like that. If I decide to keep them I need to tidy them up but also need to alter the rpm needle as it's set to low below the zero mark. Not sure if I will keep them yet so not going to take them apart again until I get my new clocks.     Deano

Cheers Mate  They look better on the car than in the picture and I am thinking I will swap the face panel into my new clocks.     Cheers     Deano

That's probably what I would say, but then again, who else has done something like this? I can't think of anyone, so Wayne, it respect to one of you most famous phrases:

"It's different."

Seriously though, when I saw it I thought "WTF" but at least you got the balls to do something like that, I wouldn't lol! Do what you want man, if people rip you for it then feck them all. People don't like my beige interior but I do, feck 'em lol!

This has in fact given me an awesome idea but it's a case of buying the correct tools and being able to pull it off right. I don't think I'd be able to :(

Give it a try Joe. This is my first time and when the clocks are took apart it's easy to mark them up with a piece of card. I did this knowing I have to change my clocks soon anyway. If I don't take to them fully I have lost nothing but they look alright(ish) on the car. I will obviously tidy up around the lcd displays and redo the rpm needle if they are staying. The original ones I did looked better with the chrome effect background and the green numbers but when the sun came out you could not see a bloddy thing so had to go for something else. Wanted carbon fibre effect but could not get any of the stuff quick enough. Not sure I will stick with them yet but I will defo be doing a different set to the new clocks whether it's these or I start again with a differant theme..  When yours are done post some pics up for us...      Cheers     Deano

Anyone who says these look great is either completely blind or just being "nice". I take it you dont have a girlfriend, but if you do, dont let her see these. Get rid of em man, they completely ruin your interior.

I'm not being 'nice' I actually like these, and my girlfriend who I have just asked thinks they are cool. They match his camo roof.

they dont look accurate at all, although they are in 20mph intervals some of the gaps are huge compared to others!
Title: Re: Got a bit bored this weekend so tryed this......
Post by: Guy on 23 November 2009, 16:08
right... you asked what people think.. so my honest opinion is

i don't like them

reasons:
the font of the digits looks difficult to read
the background contrast doesn't appear to be strong enough
they don't look to be accurate or provide enough markings

however... that said, I will always applaud people who have the balls to try something new and see how it goes and to post it up on the internet, so well done you and if you like them then keep them... its your car after all and you can do what the hell you like with it as long as you keep mr MOT man happy!

Thanks for the replies guys and girls. Yes I did ask for opinions and all will be considered with no offence taken. The gaps between the numbers are spot on. The silver marking lines are spot on as I measured these off the old displays and when very close up you can just about see the markings from the standard lines. The number positioning may make them look out as they are closer together. I have been through numerous speed cameras since fitting these to the car with no problems whatsoever. The colour scheme is not exactly what I imagined and I preferred the original set I did which was chrome background with the green letters/numbers. I will keep these until I get my new clocks then will have another go with a different colour scheme as I want to change from the standard dials.  Thanks for all the replies.     Cheers     Deano

The clocks are in Yeovil and Im in Bournemouth atm. The only problem with them is it needs a replacement bulb and that will take a few seconds.

Everything worked 100% in my mk3  Yeah MFA works. I think 25 is a fair price. They are sat in my garage doing nothing.

Only pic I have got, but you know what they look like anyway -
