I know there have been a few posts with reference to leaks but this one was kinda my fault..anyway..my dilemma is that now i have removed the carpet,do i uplift the insulation and rubber (think this is from factory stuff) just to check there there is no rust before waxoyling?

i would... where was the water coming in?
i had to throw my soundproofing away as it was knackered once it got damp
you can always get replacement from newton commercial for not much monies
-
Through a slightly opened window.to be honest i think its goin to be really tough to take it up though.if i put a pic on my facebook can you upload it onto here please guy as only on mob at the moment?

mine looks very similar... it would be a real b!tch to remove

Thanks darl...
Yeah Im thinking that its quite a hard rubber matting and to be honest with you, as the underneath is so clean, I am tempted to wax over once I have dried it out..
I'm sure there would be problems coming from underneath first so once I get that checked out,I would know for sure :undecided:

yes... mine has the same... but only in the rear footwells... in the front it was totally rotten and smelly - i replaced with dynamat
i left my rear hard rubber matting alone as it looked good enough... looking from the underside is a good idea
-
Those are just driver rear...the front is slightly patching where it has worn away...
as I have a new carpet..going to see what the fit of that is like before plumping it up with anything..the original carpat was too "shagpile" lol
Yeah...it seemed clean enough the last time I looked and considering I am wanting the whole underside waxoyled, I might as well have a looksee when its up in the air

i bought a carpet from newton, the front part fitted ok but the rear part was quite poor. i wouldnt buy one from them again! you can see the metal of the floor round the back of the car below the doorcards :(
-
oh... thats not good then. is there anyone else that does decent mk1 carpets?
-
id try for genuine 2nd hand carpets myself!

Wow, that's such a shame to hear. I expected Newton's carpets to be perfect after reading so many good things about them!
-
id certainly expect it to be better after the amount of money i paid, but it was years befopre i actually got it fitted so a bit late to take it back. maybe they sent me a tintop one by mistake?
