Title: dashloom seams 2 engoy setting fire to itself

hello people of the fellow mk2 lovers can somebody help me plz i am rebuildin my mk2 and i hav managed 2 set fire to 2 dash looms now a friend has told me its the yellow round thing on the o/s engine loom that is not earthed propley. Now has any1 had the same problem be4 an was it that and if so WTF is it?

PS if that makes sense 2 any1

Could be that you have the wrong headlight switch in?

yeah that thing can set fire to your loom if its shorts to the chassis, so follow the wiring from it back to a 2 pin plug, disconnect it then remove the thing and throw as far away as you can.

as above can also happen if you plug in the wrong switch, check the switch has same number of pins as your loom

I take it you are talking about the coil type thing inside the engine bay? Are these nessisary then? Can I just remove mine?
I've just rebuilt my car with a VR inside, and noticed I had smashed mine when putting the engine back in.
I thought this was nesisary for switching between high and low beam?

all it does is bring on dipped beam dimly with the sidelights, not required by law or the MOT :)
