Title: Oil pressure gauge fitting Q
Post by: Horney on 21 November 2009, 11:22
Hi Folks,

I'm looking at getting a TIM Capillary oil pressure gauge for the MKII. Fitted these to minis in the past and rate them highly. My only problem is to do with the thread pitch and size of the pressure sensors on a MKII. Does anyone know what they are? I need to know to see if I can use the T piece that comes with the gauge or whether I'll have to buy an adaptor T piece.

Cheers folks!

The TIM gauges seem to be 1/8 NPT and from my digging so far the Golf seems to be standard M10. RJ or other can you confirm this please :-)

Hi nick,I know when I put my gauges in the thread on the senders is 1/8npt and also I k ow that the thread on the original senders on The mk2 are 10mm as I was going to replace the oil temp sender on the back of the block with the sender that came with my gauge,In the end I used a sandwich plate between the oil filter and the oil cooler which has now given me three 1/8npt outlets.

edit: just seen they do these as well, could work if your gauge is right to fit on top of the oil cooler?

I ordered a set of smiths gauges for one of my minis and that adapter came with the kit. Coming to think of it I think it came with a couple of different sizes.
I was thinking of getting another oil pressure gauge for the golf, are they easy enough to plumb in through the dash?

Yeah it's pretty easy. I'm going for a mechanical one as I find their more reliable which means you have to run a small oil pipe up to the dash. You can get electric ones where you put an extra sensor in and run a feed wire up to the gauge. They also need wiring up to the dash light loom so they light up when you put the lights on.

Yeah man was the same with the mini, just didnt know if it was like a dash out kinda job. If I get one i'll put it where the air vent is now on the drivers side I think.
