Title: alarm on car in storage
Post by: Guy on 19 November 2009, 15:57
ey up

posting in here as I know troublestarter posts in here

got a mk1 cabby that I am storing for a few months and wanted to know the best way of having battery disconnected without fcuking up the alarm (clifford concept)

is the best option to put the car into 'valet' mode and then disconnect the battery? will this screw up the battery backup on the alarm?

tia

if you put it into valet mode before disconnecting the battery it will be fine
however if it is going to be disconnected for say 3-4 months then the siren battery will eventually go flat
but once reconnected it will take around 8 hours of the car running for it to be fully charged again

Surely if its only for a few months, it would be better to have the battery connected and have the benifits of the alarm working? And preventing it from being nicked?

no... going to have the battery inside to trickle charge it. if a battery is reconnected by tea leaves the immobiliser would kick in anyway

the immobiliser will not kick in if a battery is reconnected it will go back to the state it was in before the battery was disconnected
so in this case if you put it into valet mode then when recconnecting the battery it will automatically go back into valet mode and the immobiliser will not come on until the alarm is taken out of valet mode or the ignition has been turned on
