Title: Poorly engine!!!
Post by: linzi on 19 November 2009, 15:41
My mk4 golf 2.0 gti has been off the road for 2 weeks now. it started running slightly lumpy and there was a lag when pulling away from junctions. put new plugs and leads on - no difference.
i then put a diagnostic reader on it and it can up with lambda sensor. so replaced that, the code went but still running terrible. also changed the cat as there was a tinny rattle, it wasnt ne of the heatshields and got told it could be the cats thats collapsed thats why its running lumpy cos emissions can get out!!! it is now running worse than ever. feels like its running on 3 or even 2. no power in it at all!!!!! had it at a garage and they think its sumthing to do with the pistons as its been using quite alot of oil and the new spark plugs are covered in oil. just put diagnostic on it again and it is coming up with:

Anyone else had the same and what was the outcome. thanks   :undecided:[/list]

it does only have one yes. we tried a coil pack from a 1.6 we have got in the garage and it didnt seem to make a difference but im thinking its not the same as the 2.0 one anyway.

Every time it gets started it runs rougher and rougher each time

Has anyone checked the head gasket

not sure. think the garage did a compression test on it and all 4 were down slightly.

replacement coil pack is 032 905106 B for your AQY code and the ignition leads set x4 is 06A 905 409 L hope that helps if you need these

If it was down on compression could be the rings passing or head gasket fault, If it's in a garage i would have expected them to have checked the head anyway.  :undecided:

they thought it mite of been the rings, thats why its using alot of oil and the spark plugs have oil on them. the garage didnt really do much apart from look for a rattle for 2 hours that they still couldnt find, thats why its parked outside my house again!!!

Gonna get my hubby to take the head off and have a look cos i have got a friend wiv an engine workshop and he will do all the internal stuff for me if it needs it.

i would have thought so also and at least checked your coolant bottle to see if theres oil mixed with the water and checked your oil level this would show up mayonaising on the dipstick which would give you the likelyhood of a failing h/g if the compressions are down equally on all four cylinders or just one or two  :undecided:
