Dear All,
Spent all weekend in the rain fitting a new 1.6 AKL to golf mk4. Touch wood she has been ok today. Can any help me with a starting issue, I have a second hand coil pack fitted has a slight crack in it but seems to work. The issue is when i start it, it really labours to start then starts and the starter motor makes a herendous noise I have been told that it engages before it stops spinning or something. Is this a faulty starter motor or issue with coil pack? I appreciate without seeing/hearing it it is difficult!.
Also on the AKL 1.6 engine does anyone know where the engine code is located? as I guess i need to notify dvla to keep legal-is this right?? Lastlt does anyone know what form you need from dvla?
Thanks
Jason

sounds like the starter needs sorting. Not sure where the engine number is sorry bud

Sounds like a sticky solenoid on the starter, you could get it refurbed or buy a decent one if your keeping the car for a while.
I think from what your saying that the engine is firing up and your starter motor shaft is not retracting fast enough so the noise you may be hearing is the cog on the starter motor shaft catching the fly wheel on it's way back into the starter motor.....
But i may be wrong
