Title: Problem with my MK5 GTI
Post by: R32_T on 14 November 2009, 20:05
I have a 2006 MK5 GTI and a few days ago the ESP switched itself off and now i cant switch it back on

Got no traction what so ever! And the light with the car skidding is staying lit

Does anyone know what the problem is?

2005 Mk5 just had the dreaded lights come on tonight.    Car went into some sort of limp mode, could not get it above 2000rpm all the way home.

Think we are going to see a few posts with this problem on here in the near future.

Made much worse by the fact my wife's 1 series had the exact same issue a few months back.

Did you have any luck with VW R32_T?

When you say dreaded light do you mean the ESP light?

The ESP light (down by gearstick) switched off, traction control light (car skidding) on dash on & EPC light on the dash.

Further to my last post -  I left the car for 20 minutes in the hope the car would some how reset itself from the "limp mode" so I could get to work the next day. When I started it I was then greeted with the engine management light also.

Bad times!

I have a local independent coming out today to see what Vagcom has to say about it, will keep you posted.

My BMW had it's abs pump fail just out of warranty.
I got a scrap one for £100 and had a mobile mechanic fit it.

It could fail every year for 5 years for the cost of silly xenon extras.

Hope this info helps somebody out in the future.

Got it done FOC!!!

Well after I gave the stealers an ear bashing and told them im on a lot of VW forums plus my car had full VW dealer service history and it only ran out of warranty in June 09, they found it in their kind little hearts to do it for me FOC!!!

Apparently its more common on TDIs & 1.6’s, they have only had this problem on a few GTI’s
