Digi 8valve (PB?)
What is the best possible oil for this? Dont wanna use any cheap crap.
Its a TSR built motor with high miles and has taken alot of stick. Starting to get a bit rattly lately (aint changed the oil in 2 n a half years :embarassed:) but it has been off the road for one of them.
Got me a genuine vag oil filter aswell.
Cheers

A few on here use Halfrauds oil and don't seem to have a problem.
Personally I've not had much experience with different oils, the last oil I bought was Mobil 10w-40 @ £25+ (which I think was too thin), this time I've gone for Titan uni diesel 15w-40 (don't wanna blow too much £ on a possible duff engine). I used the Titan stuff on my last Golf and it seemed fine, and it's quite cheap @ under £15.

i used to use synta silver but its over £20 now, so like jay use the titan stuff from gsf.
-
I used to be a Synta Silver too - but I just can't justify the cost.
So Fuchs Titan XTR for me - I think I get it from GSF at arounf £14 a gallon.

Silver is £20!?
f**k. Me. I swear ours is nowhere near that price, we buy it in as people like it!

1 gal of pretty much any grade oil £9.99 its a unipart own brand but it meets vw standards.

I nicked a 5 litre of the motorworlds own when I ran the shop about a year ago but it seems too cheap lol. I do give it some right sh*t every now n again so wanna make sure its doing its job. Engine doesnt sound too bad I guess, might be the hydraulic lifters making the noise or maybe a bearing on a pulley? Still goes like f*ck when the revs and temp are up. What about castrol gtx high mileage? Or magnatec?

I ran cheap Renault oil in mine and the temperature used to creep much higher than it does on the Fuchs stuff.
I used to be under the impression oil was oil - but my opinion has been changed.

I dont know what grade is best to be honest, like you Ben, I have always just thought oil is oil, but I have heard a few storys so wanna do it right this time lol
