Title: A drive or a project?
Post by: Golf R on 12 November 2009, 00:41
Are Mk2's a drive or a project?
You don't see many driving around, so I'd guess a project.

Too much of a sweeping statement to make if you ask me.

Judge each individual car on its merits. Some may need rebuilding but that’s 'cause the oldest example is 25 years old, some are still solid, as they've been looked after and driven sensibly.

As a ratio of age to number of cars still on the road I'm sure the Mk2 would be in the top 5. I see loads every day!

You forgot to include f@cked  :lipsrsealed:

I think the Golf2 would probably have top spot for being 25yrs old and still going strong.
How many other 25-17yr old cars are there of 1 model & marque ?

See loads of em about in Leicester/Nuneaton/Coventry area, even a couple of mk1 polo's flying about as daily drivers. My Mk2 has done well over 150k and still pulls like a train (when it finally starts up and idles right )

If you have a mk2 then enjoy it

Mine only goes out when its dry, not my daily drive. mondeo tdci  company car, i cover the midz as an engineer. i would say i only see 1 or 2 a week. and i do look for them.

Best kept standard one i saw as i got on the M5 north from worcester, spotless gold GL, looked like a daily. dont see many 16vs would love to see more out there!

i do enjoy the power mine has. just keeps pulling!

Top car of 17 years plus of 1 model & marque has to be the Ford Escort Mark 1 or 2. As much as I love the Golf I would love another mint Escort. The Escort will never be replaced as the top classic!!!!     Cheers     Deano

I have never classed my gti16v as a project, I see it as a car that was the best VW could produce in 1988, So as far as i can see if its looked properly there is no dougt it will last 4 ever,
But if i would choose a project car it would have 2 be a LANCIA DELTA INTERGRALE,
