Why do you want to put a mk1 oil cooler on a mk2?

Just wondering?

Sorry to hijack but what are the advantages of an oil cooler and do you have to do away with a filter?

the 16v ive got runs fine but im planning to take it to the 200bhp mark. One of my friends has done this all ready and required additional cooling. Ive had a look at the oil cooler set up and i cant any reason why it wont change over.

My valver is in with my mechainc at the moment having a ported head, 264 deg cams and a flowed inlet fitted, would it be a wise idea to think about getting an oil cooler fitted in the near future??? ;)

If so, which type should I be looking out to get ??? :)

I would mate. Its either that or lifting up the hinges at the back of the bonnet, but this doesn't work nearly as good. Its good engine insurance to have one. My friends one come from here i think or is simular.

Am I right in thinking that you are planning to keep the water cooled oil cooler AND add the air cooled oil cooler? Don't see why that wouldn't work.......

Yup that's right, the only thing im thinking about is, will it be an easy fit to the engine.

I would have thought so, the pipes go in the same direction, its the filter head that will cause the problem, not sure that you'll be able to combine the two. I have a mk1 with the air cooled and a mk1 with the water cooled. Could take some pics tomorrow for you if you think it'll help.........Weather permitting :-\

That would be realy helpfull thanks alot. Externally the blocks are very simular, i wonder if the mk1 filter holder would change over as well?
