I decided to change the headlight bulbs today BTW very easy no wires, anyhow when I got into the car tonight I noticed that my right fog light also came on :embarassed: so I switched off on and started the engine nope still the same, changed the bulbs back set off and I'm cured no more right fog light by its self ( yes i made sure they we off by turning them on then off.
Got home and changed the light again and now the fog light stays off . WTF? any ideas

????????? German engineering at its best

Make sure there is no short circuit some where. If a wire has been crimped into the body work i.e tied down to earth, this could be the problem.

Remember those lights are static cornering lights as well so come on and off depending on whether the steering wheel is turned or the indicator is on.

how does this work.. I did read about previously but cant say i have noticed it happening :undecided:

Static cornering lights - one fog light comes on when you turn a corner.
Dynamic cornering lights - swivelly haedlamps when you choose the xenon option.
Question is, do the fogs still light up if you have the xenons?

I found out what it was..... not but the good news is they work fine now. I took them out put them back in and hey presto the correct lights work. Its a strange layout changing these bulbs no wires anywhere, Twist, pop. Push, twist and its done. :smug:

Saw this in action this morning going for the morning rolls (roll and square slice.. Magic) I pulled up and looked in the bookies window as I reversed and the fog light was on. OH bo**ocks I thought then I remembered what you both said and turned the wheel back and forth so the fogs did a little dance. How cool is that and cheers for clearing this up.

O would imagine so, best way to check is either get in front of a shop window with your lights on or get some one else to turn the wheel with you watching. Its pretty  watching the left then right fog light come on/off depending which way you turn the wheel.

Nothing is mentioned in the GTI spec to say they are static cornering lights.
I can definitely see mine coming on and off in the dark when I'm driving on country roads.
