apologies, i don't post much and when i do its been negative. The car is fantastic but...
on the motorway tonight, in the rain, all of a sudden i get a drip on my right arm. water coming through the seal. couldn't believe it. then parked up in teh garage, looked over to the passenger seat and there's a drip of water on the seat too! ran finger along the top side of the door (inside) and there's water seaping through. both sides. what's the crack?!?!
on top of that. it still rattles. havng a few beers tonight to chill and then ringing the dealers tomorrow after calmed down.
plus i've had a sh1te day at work.
happy days.. :o)
p.s honestly i really like the car. 3dr in white! looks and drives really well!

Was a few mk5 cars with the same problem iirc. Just going to have to get it looked at by dealers unfortunately.
Do check that you didnt leave the windows open, even just a little bit as you will find out water pours into the car on a rainy day with windows open
-
Yea mine still rattles sometimes from the drivers pillar, from the rear passenger door card area and from above my head somewhere.Did try some VW rubber care stick but didn't work!
Will get it took the the dealer when ive sorted the paintwork out(long story, dont ask)

Just a thought; I was at VW in Cambridge yesterday checking out a nice five door GT in white so I could figure out where best to fit a cradle. The demonstrator had a roof rack which left a impression on the upper section of the door seal. I was thinking that could leak. Your car was built specially for you I imagine so like I said just a thought...were your windows completely up?

Same problem with the driver's B pillar on my GTD. Took it in to the dealer's, and it's apparently a loose piece of trim inside the pillar. They've ordered a new part, and just awaiting delivery. I've a sneaking suspicion there's also a similar rattle from the passenger B pillar too.
-
Do you have a sunroof?
-
Me? I do, and there's a slight rattle from there too. But it also rattled in my last two GTis.
-
Sorry Al, directed at DISCO , was just thinking about the leak, not the rattle.
-
No problem
-
no sun roof. just standard 3dr. and yes the windows were up
spoken to the dealer. booked in next friday - the 13th
Interestingly they said that if its not the seals then they'll have to send it to the body shop...hmmm... i new perfectly built car and not a hacked one. Anyway, i'll just see what they come back with next week.
-
good luck
slight tangent, but noticed how there are "soft" seals on the outside of the window? means that after washing the car, they get wet. so after i've dried the car, if i wind down the windows and back up, i get a wet window again... plus water marks!
maybe just a personal view, but i also find it wierd how the door seal at the top of the door is "exposed".

Rattles and leaks are two of the reasons the Brera has to go bye bye.
Local Alfa dealer has tried several times to sort but sems incapable of doing much; crap stuff, crap dealer.
Best of luck on Friday

@keelaw
i checked the seals this morning and they do appear exposed, plus they were still damp from last night, so can't help but think that at motorway speeds the water was simply pushed through the soft seal?!

hmmm... i've driven on the motorway in the rain before and didn't have any leaks..... :undecided:

So far its rained everyday since getting the car, not noticed any water/leaks. Though the car is quite misty in the mornings whilst it warms up!!.

Not the sort of thread I want to be reading when I'm about to put £35K down on a car. It's nearly 2010, not 1973 - rattles and especially leaks should be a thing of the past. It's the basics, isn't it?
-
Well it could be worse ! ....

Another check for the collection checklist - if it gets any longer we may as well do the PDIs ourselves and save a bit of money lol!!

Hi Disco, I see you have a 3dr in White - any pics? I've ordered black and am not sure if ive made the right decision! Could still change as it's a company car and a few of us in work are ordering Gti's!
Thanks

well, just been to the dealership. Took the technician out and very frustratngly the rattles didn't crop up. Left it with them for a few days so they can test on a cold morning. so we'll see.
on the leak front - I was asked whether the windows were up  And then, that i'd obviously opened the door to get in, at which point rain will hav ran on the inside of teh seal then to come through... so how come that's never happenned on any other car (inc. golfs) i've had... I wasn't convinced plus it come through slightly on the passenger door that hadn't been opened...
..so they going to water test it..?! whether that means throwing a bucket of water over it i don't know.
i'm now thinking i should have gone for a 1yr old boxster, accept the running costs and accept that it won't be brand new therefore not get annoyed with it!
