Just need some advice from you chaps!
I was supposed to pick up my GTI this lunch. I am really looking forward to this as I waited more than four months for the car. Unfortunately I cannot accept the car as one of the option I specified on the order form was missing ---the luxury pack. I need the folding mirrors as my garage is just 2010cm wide!
Spoke to the sales manager and he rung up VW tech and was told the mirror cannot be retrofitted. The salesperson then called me later said one of the tech guy had done one on a Scirroco. They will transfer the folding mirror from one of the demonstrater to mine! They are also happy to discuss compensation! :undecided:
I am happy that they are trying their best to help me to deliver the car I wanted. But I am a bit worried that they are trying something that is not recommended by Vw UK.
Really appreciate some help and advice here!
What should I look out for to make sure they fitted it properly?

Sound slike your dealer is trying hard to help you out so for a start that's good.
As for the folding mirrors themselves I can't see how retro fitting them from another car can be that hard. The software will already be in the car and just need unlocking so it's surely just a case of swapping the mirror assemblies over and checking it all works.
If it were me I would be happy they did this as long as it was documented and signed off and that they agreed to honour (in writting) any warranty claims made against this feature even though they retro fitted it and it wasn't factory fitted. Much better that than rejecting the car and having to wait months for another one.

Completely agree with the above. It is technically and physically possible for sure. So as Nick already said, just make sure you have the whole thing documented in writing. Most importantly insure that you have in writing that your warranty now covers the retrofit for the full 3 years as per the rest of the components on your car.

reject the car, and as compensation request a Golf R as replacement for the same cost,
just to piss kev off some more if nowt else.
You must be gutted mate
-
Also, make sure you push the compensation. This has casued you hassle, you won't have your car when promised etc etc. It wasnt built as per your specification.
If there is no cash deal on offer push for free servicing for two years or something similiar.
-
Though I'm sure VW can do it, I wouldn't feel happy. If I ordered something, I want it to come that way from the factory.
-
Your advantage is that this is not a major component. I remember a while back in the MK5 forums someone had specced a new MK5 GTI with Manual, but it arrived as DSG. Not much you can do about that.
To confirm how simple the process is please check out this thread for the mirror retrofit on a MK5. I can assure you the wiring and components will be basically the same in the MK6

I know this is a retrofit from an ebay product, but the principles are the same. You of course will have genuine VW parts.
At the end of the day, even after the retrofit if you are still not happy you can reject the car. For this reason everything is in your favour. You get the job done by VW technicians and negotiate compensation in some shape or form. Take the car for a drive, test the mirrors a number of times and make your decision. I firmly believe you will be able to drive your new GTI home with a big smile on your face and have space to walk past your folded mirrors in your garage

I take it you mean mm. If you really do mean cm, I would be worried if you need to fold the mirrors in to get through there.

 Thanks for cheering me up!
I am going back monday lunch and test it before I paid!
I think the luxury pack= three feature
1. Folding mirror
2. Mirror angled in order one can see the kerb when put on reverse
3. puddle light???
Cheers for all the kind words and advise!

Just kidding, hope you get it sorted.

 I hope its just the entrance door of your garage you have to have the mirrors folded in for or how will you get the door open  or is that why you went for a hatch.
Sorry to hear about the build problems i myself could not trust them to fit them but thats just me. Hope you come to some solution your happy with with them.

I'd take their offer
.
You'll have waited a while for the car and yes, you want it like you specc'd but if it can be sorted and yout something like [already posted] a deal on servicing then that's a bonus.

Got my car at last!
I am glad that they manage to retrofit the luxury pack.
They have been very apologetic thru the whole saga
I am satisfied with what they offer to say sorry
1. A written garanteed for the door mirror
2. Didn't charge me for fitting the Fiscon and retrofitting the luxury pack(Parts and labour)
3. Free bootliner and the proper GTI mattress
Will zymol the car this weekend (If weather stay dried) and take some pictures!
Did 10 miles so far. It is a very quiet and comfortable car on normal setting. Will tried the sport setting this weekend!

great result

Now that is a good result!

3. Free bootliner and the proper GTI mattress
Oh what GTI mattress would that be then, I could use one of them for sleepovers in the car!!!!lol
If you mean mats, well I want in on them too, mine just has plain mats not GTI ones.
-
Who actually got the proper VW GTI mats? The manual says you're supposed to get them as standard, but I think most owners here have plain mats.
I'd be keen a pic. I've seen aftermarket ones and they were a little OTT imo
-
I guess you missed mine... Keelaw... I posted pics of them already...
-
It's a shame it's never the other way arround in that you don't spec a lux pack but get it... for free!
At least it's nothing like ACC missing or somthing like that. Does make you think thought ..... I'll call my dealer tomorrow just to double check he's got all my options!

I challenge my dealer with the price list I got from July when I ordered my car. They said all UK car gets the black one from september. As a goodwill gesture, they will order one for me!
I now got 2 sets of mats---one for wet weather and one for dry!
I am not sure whether I should name the dealer here. The sales manager and the sales executive had been very good sorting this saga out! Adding everything up= More than £1000 off a in-demand car+very generous partexhange!
PS. I am glad I bought the Fiscon. It work perfectly with the multifunction steering wheel and the sound quality is excellent!

I think you should as all too often dealers are on the wrong end of abuse from us (they deserve it though lol) but equally praise should be recognised for doing something right
