Title: power drop
Post by: Gt-tdi on 01 October 2004, 16:53
hey peeps, on my PD 115bhp diesel ive noticed that every thing appears ok but the power isnt there anymore! i thought maybe its the clutch slipping but it does the same thing on high gears! it jus doesnt pull as it did. for about a month i had the wrong oil in the car but even that was top grade. ive sorted that out but it still seems to be gettin weaker. i think its the turbo but it does work and sound ok, ANY ideas?? cheers

p.s. THANKS FOR EVERYONE WHO HELPED WITH THE OIL PROB!!!

see this thread for advice on checking the turbo

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=11179.0

Usually you can tell if its the turbo/boost hoses because you'll be kicking out a tonne of soot when the turbo spools up.
Sounds to me like the ecu is pulling the boost for some other reason, could be MAF (air mass meter) related or possibly the cat was affected by the wrong oil and the lambda is failing.

After checking the turbo using the info from the link above, next stop should be vag specialist/dealership/anyone with vag com who can check for fault codes, rather than using a trial and error method replacing suspect parts, which will end up costly !

Chris.

cheers chris,

Thanks again!

Go for the MAF. Tis a common problem. Not too expencive to replace nowadays either. We sell them at about ?65 + VAT
