Title: First Impressions.
Post by: Gazdebaz on 04 November 2009, 20:46
Right folks, here we go first impressions of new car.

Driving.

Fantastic car to drive, road holding excellent, feedback excellent.

N.B. Car was supplied with Bridgestone tyres.

DSG Gearbox.

I love it, but haven’t put it through its full potential as still running in; yes we are following TT’s recommendation.

RCD510 with dynaudio.

Excellent sound system. Ramped it up really loud, very little distortion.

NB. Came with Media In and Ipod cable. This confused me, as on the VW configurator, if you selected the RCD510, the media in was removed. I plugged in my MP3 player via the usb socket and it connected seamlessly, with all albums and tracks displayed. SD card was the same.

Toys.

Love the rear view camera and parking sensors. Puddle lights: cool. Coming home lights, leaving home lights, also cool.

Sound Generator/Exhaust Note

I love the sound, Wife thinks it sometimes sounds like a diesel, wait to she hears it when I floor it. (After running in period of course.)

Paintwork.

Love the colour and IMO looks really good, but did notice on closer inspection, that it does have an “Orange peel effect” Obviously that’s the way they spray the cars these days, we inspected a metallic coloured car in the showroom and that looked the same.

Has any one else noticed this?

Shopping.

Parks easily at Tesco’s and boot space allows you to get at least a weeks worth of shopping in.

Negative points.
MFD display not very user friendly. IMO

My Wife finds the driving seat a bit uncomfortable as the side bolsters dig in to her hips. Probably done to the seats being new and hopefully over time they should loosen up a bit.

Auto windscreen wipers, still getting used to, more manual intervention needed than I first thought.

Weather.

Been pis*ing it down for days. Haven’t had a chance to wash and wax, and fully check the paint work.

Pictures to follow.

Yes I have 17" Monza's and mud guards but this was our choice.

Yeah the orange peel is pretty bad. Its not a new car thing as my last car (Mazda) was like a mirror finish. Don't know if it is a VW or Golf thing.
Detailers will get rid of it for you for a couple of hundred pounds and make it mirror like.

I have red too, never seen any orange peel and I clean it pretty good.  Where is your finish like this?

Here's mine, lovely car by the way, we're in the 5 dr Tornado club then!

It's only noticible, very close up and in artifical light. Once the car gets a good wash, polish and wax, I think it will be hard to see.

Nice 1 mate, mine is red as well 3 door though (no  kids or grannies). I do like the Monza wheels would love a set for myself. Also have the bridgestone tyres.

As for the seats unless I'm pissed as a fart   I'll be the only driver

I have no problems with the seats as I find them very comfy. I think my wife is just used to...what we might call normal car seats. I think its just a matter of her getting used to them.

18s would look better, but 17s will be more comfy and faster around a track.

Didn't notice the mud flaps at all!

Enjoy dude!

I think your car looks good just the way it is. The more red mk6 Golfs i see on the street and in photos the more i like them.

Didn't notice the mud flaps at all!

I was worried when I first spec'd them. But I think they look ok and with winter coming up, plus the recent weather, I am glad I did.

Its your car. As long as you are happy with it, it doesn't matter what others think

I never even noticed it had 17" wheels or mudflaps on when I first looked at it so that shows how much they don't change the first impressions of the car.

I always think red is in your face and needs to be on an aggressive looking car which is what the GTI is.

Enjoy the posing

Very nice!

Noticed you've spec'd up a Sunroof. Wonder how many people have done the same (seems to be more popular than they were on the mk5 (according to the dealer).

I think you're right about the mud flaps.  My dealer talked me out of them - said they didn't make a lot of difference.  Looking at my filthy car, I think he might be wrong....

For my wife, the sunroof is a necessity and was the first thing added on the options list. We both really like the extra light it gives in the cabin.

You can't do it via facebook. Need to join one of those free photo sites. Flickr is pretty good and easy to use.

But if its a GT, can it join the "big boys" club (until the Golf R bully comes along that is!)

They're both 1100's, both with aftermarket exhausts etc etc.  Both stupidly fast but in different ways and now sadly, both no longer in my possession. My Bro in law took a ride on the bottom one and the guy he was riding with died.  Every time I went out on a bike after that my wife was in tears thinking I was never going to come back so I hung up my leathers.

I don't think the Scirroco looks good in black at all. I've seen a few now on the road and haven't been impressed. It looks much better in white or blue. As for the Golf, black definitely does it for me but I also like the white and red.

Oh that's sad for the guy who died I mean.  Sensible of you especially when you've got a wife and kids, see too many deaths on motorbikes round here, the roads over the moors are death traps unless you know the bends and hills really well. RIP ducati.

Yep Gizzy, sad situation. I'm gonna shoot myself right in the foot now but this was my last Ducati before quitting the bikes and yes, it's black!!! This was a beast, Ducati Hypermotard S with full system, every upgrade I could find, even a custom italian made subframe, it cost me not shy of around £15K, lovely back, absolute monster on the twisties.

As for the Scirocco, I loved it in black, one of the best colours I think I just hated the ride hight, you shouldn't have to lower a car from the factory like that.

Well that was my problem, I did like to ride quick, did a lot of riding in Europe as well so speeds were excessive (on the right road/conditions) but don't miss it now. Might get a track bike again one day......

I know what you mean about the freedom though...
