Title: Single grill
Post by: Tucker on 01 October 2004, 08:17
Hi People,

I have a twin head light s on my grill and am thinking of changing them to single one's.

What I would like to know is whats needed and where to get the bits from?

The red edge on the front of my grill has faded and looks pants.

Thanks
Tucker

All you need is to buy a single headlamp grill.  Remove the old one, unplug the inner lamps and take the colour coded bottom section away from the grill.

Put colour coded section onto the new grill and clip into place on the car!

Simple really!  ;D

P.s Then bin the old grill as you'll never use it again!  ;)

Top job but what about full beam, do I need new head lights?

No,

Full beam is part of the Outer lamps, the ones you are keeping.  The inner lamps are spot lamps nothing more, they are wired up to the full beam.

You'll loose a little some light but if you upgrade your bulbs to PIAA like I did then you'll notice a big difference whilst driving a night.  Full beam is also very good.

For the best setup go for Crystal outer lamps with PIAA bulbs or ultimately a Xenon kit.

PIAA bulbs aren't cheap though but they are excellent and i've had a set in every car i've bought for the last 5 years!

?442 for a Xenon Kit, my next mod I think, after my FK's!!

Hope that helps! :)

when you take the old grill off, make sure you keep the clips at either end that go into the headlamps!!

bastard to find any more.....

and it's worth NOT buying the cheapest single grills as they don't flex as well to fit the front.

it's all about personal taste really, i reckon the bonrath grills are cool, but soooo expensive. have seena couple of mk2s with mesh grills, that looks wicked. you get 5bar to 3 bar grills, 3 bar looks better I reckon!

haven't seen anyone selling the mesh ones though, I think you need to buy it and cut it yourself....

just thinking about what you said up there. the inner spots work off the outer headlights. wouldn't disconnecting them make the outer ones brighter?

any, single lights rock ;D

Why not have twin lights, then the spots could be wired up to the sidelights, perhaps through a resistor so they weren't too bright!!

Not a bad idea there!

I'm in favour of the single lamps though.  But i'll be going rallye front soon when my cosmetics are all done.

Yep SWG do still do grilles, their 3-slat single headlight grille is top of my list (?90 but I think it is worth it) only trouble is the SWG grille spoiler is another ?40 but it's gotta be worth it to get the best fit.

But i'm not sure about getting the one in the pic on the first page!

It's very nice but will it go with what i'm trying to achieve with my car!!
