right then fella's whats the average that you have to top up the oil in you standard Gti's then? i'm used to heavy consumption of oil after my CTR and the Gti seems to fair no better, particularly if pushed regularly
-
I did just shy of 10k last year and used about 3L of oil!
-
In about 20k, around 1.5l but to be fair most of that was in the first 10k.
-
Well its not quite that high as yet, but bet it is nearer the end of the year...I get a nagging feeling that these engines are just gonna be high oil users.
Anyone else??
-
I cant quantify it very well, probably around a litre per 2500 miles. My old 1.8T didn't need topping up between servicing :undecided:
This question comes up quite often and there is quite a variation in response. I asked the stealer about it and an independant and they both said it was normal for this type of engine to use quite a bit of oil and in fact most modern / more efficient engines apparantly are drinking more oil than old school engines.
According to VW 1 litre per 750 miles is considered 'normal'

All I can say is..I hope it's not going out the back end because come MOT time I don't want a 3 year old car failing on emissions!
My dad used to have a smokey old ford - MOT failure every time (except when the engine breather hose was disconnected!). However that never needed topping up?
-
After 22k miles it has never needed a drop between services. Yes..... I do check it regularly.

good..thought there was nowt to really worry about as fuel consumption is fine, no smoking, not a bean as yet. Just wondered as it is a little high but nowhere near VW standards!!
