Gutted, good luck with the house.

Plans for next car?

Something cheap! I had my eye on a £850  P-reg 328i Coupe but it was sold before I could have a proper look.

It's hard when you've had nice cars for a while. What I really need is a big old reliable estate for 6 months whilst I sort the house as it needs work, BUT I'm not sure I could stand driving around in an estate! Maybe a big hatch?

I don't really want to spend more than £3k, less if possible. I did look at a classic Impreza turbo wagon, but it had issues unfortunately.

Maybe a Skoda Octavia VRS? :undecided:

Not a bad idea with the Skoda, this one http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=129374.0 was up for 3k (Im guessing it sold as the thread is closed but idea what it sold for) and to be fair, its a pretty smart looking car not mention having a cracking engine in the form of the MK4 GTIs AQU engine code 1.8T (which produces 180bhp as standard as opposed to 150bhp in the earlier models, pre 2002. Its just a different map out the factory).

Will remap to 200bhp +. Def worth a look.

i wouldn't mind an unmodified Mk2 golf - doesn't even have to be a Gti! lol

As usual I can't decide!

Not such a bad idea, just want something cheap that I don't have to worry about for 6 months and don't mind filling with crap to take to the tip etc!

Me too.

Am currently in the process of moving and the new place needs a lot of work. Probably need to get an old estate car for a year or so for tip runs etc.

Had thought about a Volvo 850 T5. Plenty of space and pace (230bhp). They can be had for under a grand.

Really don't want to sell the GTI though.......

Are you selling because you need money or space for tip runs?

I just need the space, the money isn't an issue but I don't want to trade the GTI for an estate car of similar value because i'd be too concerned about it being used for carrying building supplies etc and getting damaged. I really just want a reasonably solid 'snotter' that will last me for a year or so.

My original plan was to buy a second car for about £500 (maybe a pre 1993 volvo estate) and insure it on classic insurance so I could keep the GTI to use for everything else. Trouble is, when you add up the cost of insurance, tax, MOT, servicing etc on a second car it looks a bit pricey for something i'll only use about 2/3 times a week.

I even contemplated getting a detachable towbar fitted to the GTI so i could use my Dad's trailer but soon saw sense.

If it where me Id do what you suggested and buy an old banger just to run around stuff in and keep the GTI for everyday use. Buy which has MOT and tax, sod the servicing, your only keeping it for a short time and its an old banger, scrap it after if you want sell.

Just me opinion.

This might well be the best plan. A month or so ago I started to go out and look at a few cars (mainly Volvos). There are some absolute horrors out there at banger money.

There is plenty of choice of decent stuff at £1-£1.5k, but I don't want to stuff that much cash into what is effectively a throw away car.

Hopefully something will come up locally that suits my needs. I'm keeping an eye out on ebay and autotrader for stuff within 10 miles of home.

I'm liking the used RS4 idea from above....

Or rent a tranny van when you need it - FTW!

Might not have to sell after all, as I think I've managed to get a better mortgage deal, but still I'm buying an end terraced house and will need to move crap around and also it will be parked on the street!

So it's still for sale if anyone is interested........

What size wheels are on your car, they look like 18'' Monza's with normal finish? Are they genuine VW or replicas?

Have you had any offers on the car so far to give me an idea of where you are at price wise.

Being honest I was after a 5dr with DSG, but after seeing alot of crap examples for sale I have now opened up my options to 3dr and manual. I can see that enthusiasts prefer 3dr and therefore I stand a better chance of getting a mint example car (something that is essential to me being a very anal petrolhead! :undecided:)

Can you give me the exact spec list (options) and do you have pics of the interior?

Thanks

They look like 17s to me.

Sorry,

Only just seen the replies to this thread - been working.

They are std 17s.

Car is std high Gti spec plus 10 speaker audio upgrade with 6CD in dash changer, Armrest and Cruise Control.

I will take some pics of the interior asap, but it is std Golf Gti cloth.

I've reduced the price on PH to £15495 but I'm open to offers. ;)
