Title: Gear leaver
Post by: zxrmatt on 30 September 2004, 11:00
Is it a difficult or easy job to replace the gear leaver in a golf?

Reason i ask is, the revious owner has cut mine down and put a carbon gear knob on it. I want to put the old golf ball back on but all the thread has been but off the top and the ball does not now fit.

Could drill out the golf ball a bit and then stick it on, but wondered if its easy enough to get a new gear stick from breakers and put it in.

Any ideas?

Cheers

you need to remove it from underneath the car. there is a heat shield you need to remove. and if you remove the centre silencer its usually easier also!

its more fiddly than anything!!

it'd be worthwhile replacing the ball and cup on the base of the gear lever also
