Title: losing temp mk 4 1.8t gti

driving home today when i noticed the temp gauge had droped from 90 to 0 i stopped and switched it off left it a few minute started again and back to 90 for a few miles dropped any ideas what this could be cheers

Its either a fault with your gauges sender unit or a problem with your thermostat. Is your heater still hot when the gauge drops?

yea it still blowing  hot and the fan still cuts in and out

It will be a gauge issue then, either a dodgy electrical connection or more likely a faulty sender unit.

hope u can help had the car booked in at lunch to get the temp gauge sender unit changed and they had order the 2 pin unit instead of the 4 pin apparantly , going back tom mornin , anyway on the way home tonight the engine managment light came on would this temo unit cause this light to come on , cheers martin

Post in the mk4 section. I'd replace your temp sender and thermostat with genuine VW items.

all sorted replaced the temp sender from vag and engine managment light has gone out well chuffed cheers  :smiley:
