Title: MK3 GTi 2.0 8v - No spark?!!
Post by: oldmiller8 on 29 October 2009, 19:56
A friend at work has a MK3 GTi and it broke down yesterday as she was stopping at a junction, then wouldn't start.
Still wont start.

I have taken a plug out to see if there was a spark and nothing.
I then took the lead from the coil to distributor off at the dizzy end and held it close to the cylinder head....no spark.

I have then tested the multi plug going to the coil pack and no power what so ever, even while cranking the engine.

A friend of hers mentioned changing the crank sensor, so I did and still nothing.

Just wondering if there is a relay, fuse or any common wire faults on these cars?

Any help would be great as she has resorted to getting back on her motorbike and is moaning like a B$%&h about the rain.

There should be an ign live feed at the coil, dont think its fused check with a m/m. If there is a feed you will need a new coil.

Know a few people including my dad that have had to replace the ecu due to no spark

Coils are notoriously faulty.
