Title: Wing Mirrors - Luxury Pack
Post by: VWKev on 28 October 2009, 20:46
Anyone got the lux pack ?

When I park I always put the mirrors on so that they retract, but once or twice when I have got into the car I set them to L to open them and sometimes it just doesnt recognise that I've set them to L. They just stay closed. I then turn it to off/retract position, then back to L and they open.

Am I doing something wrong ? Or do I have an intermittant fault ?

Oh joy, sounds just like my mk5.  It does it now and again, VW still cost cutting switches

Ahh so this is a common 'fault' with the mirrors ?

Mine are fine.  Not had a problem at all.  And I always fold them when I'm reversing into my garage, so that means every day.  Mind you, I only recently started leaving them at L and just switching between folded and L, since someone pointed out that's how to get them to swivel on reverse.  Still not had a problem though.

Yeah I've had that problem twice, yesterday and today funnily enough.
Yesterday I tried about 3 times turning the switch back and forward but the mirrors wouldn't rotate back so I started to drive and the mirrors flipped open.

The switch feels really flimsy to me.

This is pretty poor from a reliability & design perspective. I've spec'd this pack on the basis that they /automatically/ retract when you lock/unlock the doors.

I didn't think VW would have such an outdated system as having to manually fick a switch; even my Alfa does the business on the remote!

Agreed Ava, it is pretty poor that you can't do it via remote.

Also once you've turned the ignition off you can only do it if you haven't opened your drivers door.

Still shows the value of these forums that you get this kind of detailed info!!

Mine are exactly the same Kev, the switch kind of crunches when I turn past the L position, is yours the same? Hard to describe but definitely feels like something not right as you turn it past the L position. I'm gonna get them to have a look at it.

I think mine is the same, I'll pay more attention to that.

I was thinking about getting them to look at it but I felt it was kinda trivial, but now you have mentioned it I may do it.

I've said this before, I think it would be very dangerous to have the mirrors fold out automatically.  Suppose you folded them in exactly because you wanted to park very close to a wall.  Then when you turn the ignition on again - crunch!

Yes but you could have a setting on the knob like you have L to flip down automatically when you reverse.
Wouldn't have been hard for VW to do.
