Title: 1.8T (150) Peaking at 11psi with remap?
Post by: Chris192 on 28 October 2009, 17:21
Just wondering if anyone who owns a 1.8T (150, 1999 T-reg) with remap peaks at around 11psi? Had a remap done a few weeks back and was told normally the remap takes it up to around 16psi but that the actuator screws may need tightening. Also could be the turbo is knackered - just checking if anyone else has had a common issue?

It does pull more since the remap, definately notice the difference just the guys who did the remap said the turbo on the 1.8T normally peaks around 16psi and that mine was only hitting 11psi. Trying to squueze as much out of her as possible really :) It shows 11 psi on my boost gauge and it showed the same results on their computer during the remap.

one more thing... check all your boost pipes for leaks, and have you got the forge 007 diverter valve :undecided:

what engine code mate. Actuator screws needed tightening?! All I can think of is they meant adjusting the preload on the actuator...

11psi is a bit low mate you need check your pipes and stuff and check the pipe on the boost gauge may have slight slit in it or just not on the boost gauge propely

Check for fault codes and boost leaks

The gauge pipes are fine no splits in them when they did the remap their laptop was only showing 11psi also. It is the AGU model, do you know where the pipes are that would need checking? I'll try and get some pictures to upload this weekend so you can see where im looking. There are no fault codes as the guys who did the remap checked that out first and said it was the first car of the day to have no faults. :S confused...

Yeah i have a very bad feeling my turbo may be cracked or some sort of problem with it. So im guessing you currently have a cracked ko3 AGU? How easy is it to fit a ko3s to a pre 2000 1.8 GTi ?? Is there a lot of extra work involved do you know? (Thinking i might do the same as you now lol)

There are ways to test if it's the actuator, wastegate, turbo or something electrical. It's not really something i'd advise a novice to do though, one mistake could do some serious damage and ideally should be done on a rolling road.
