Title: Noob DSG / MFSW question
Post by: markfive on 27 October 2009, 20:45
So a little noob MFSW / DSG question for all you folks in the know. I've searched here and elsewhere for the answer to this and not been able to come to a firm result so perhaps someone who has done this can help me.

I'm waiting for a dealer to pull their finger out so I can take delivery of my '57 plate GTI with DSG and Highline display. It currently does not have the MFSW fitted, just the paddles. I don't know which steering controller is fitted but from what i have read elsewhere it should (but might not) be the MFSW-capable one.

I think that in order to upgrade to the MFSW I just need the two switch units and the airbag loom, as shots of a non-MFSW paddle wheel with the airbag removed show the ribbon cables in place and the screws holding the blank plates where the switches should be. I have also seen similar shots of a non-paddle non-MFSW where these things are clearly missing and the plates where the switches go appear to be fixed on differently.

Is this
a) correct
b) possibly correct but you won't know until you have taken the airbag off
c) complete rubbish

And while I am here, I've seen two styles of MFSW buttons - the "proper" buttons and the ones that look as if they are moulded. Which are better, and which are right for a 57 plate car? Do they both light up?

Cheers, Mark
