Just wondered what you guys do when it comes to washing your cars when the weather is poor.
We unfortunately live in the UK and the weather is poor, sometimes in Glasgow I've seen it rain non stop for a fortnight.
In light of that, I'd like to keep the car clean, so what do you all do when the weather is bad ? Wait till it clears, as I say it could be a while, or wash anyway ?
In the past with my past cars I've always went through a car wash (I know I know) and I have never washed a car by hand in all my days  So this is new to me.

I usually wait until it clears then give it a wash. The less dirt on it the less chance of damaging the finish when you give it a proper wash. This is where stuff like Megs Last Touch is useful - wash and dry the car then give it a quick spray with LT.

even if the dirt is piling up, you just wait till the weather gets better yeah ?

Nope, I'll get out and give it a wash! The rain is bound to ease (even in sunny Glasgow), so that's the time to do it. I'll wash my car even if I haven't driven it!
-
carry on as much as possible

Think again!

Ha, ha... as an ex-Glasgow boy I knew exactly what you mean!!

Sorry guy, do you mean just leave it till the weather breaks ?

no... just carry on regardless... the only thing you'll have trouble doing is polishing in wet/damp conditions

As long as it's not lashing down (in which case you may wanna head indoors), you can carry on as guy says. I've detailed my car during light rain (wash, dry, clay, wax).

Cool, thanks.

Thanks but guess what? No wax!!!
It was the first time I'd washed the GTI. Rinsed, washed twice using 2BM, dried, clayed and that's it! I didn't wax it until a few days later when the wax had arrived.
The shinyness is more down to the quality of the original paint than anything that I did, but bear in mind the car was about seven or eight months old at that point.

exactly the weather dont worry me regardless i'l still wash it even more so now towards the winter months as guy says just a bit of trouble with polishing etc i just hope for a decent warmish day over winter and go for it

I normally wash it, rinse it in the rain.
Then put it in the garage and dry it, and then do everything else.
-
Thats the only thing I wish I had and thats a garage, we will be looking to move house some time next year so a garage is a must.
-
I wash mine in the rain regardless of the comments I get from the neighbours.
If it does stop raining, I'll sheet the water off with an open hose then dry it using AG Aqua Wax as an aid.
-
I washed and managed to polish mine today took me about 3 hours before it started to rain, good old sunny south wales lol.

If its pissing it down...leave it?
The paint ain't gonna die if if its not washed and waxed 3 times a day.
Theres nothing like a nice shiny car but why do it in the rain. Let the rain wash all the dust off for you. Onces stopped, come out and clean the water marks off.

It's not as easy as that. When its raining the crap and dirt from the roads when driving starts to build up, splashes etc from other cars, vans, lorries etc builds up too. Before you know it, its pretty dirty. In this weather lately, I might get an hour or two restbite but I'm not always sitting waiting for the rain to go off so I can run out and clean the car. The rain doesnt wash it off in the slightest.
Not sure about anyone else, but I hate my car with dirt on it. I like it looking clean and shiney both on the outside and in.

Why do cars that never get washed never seem to get any dirtier?
My cars are always kept clean, waxed and detailed, but after one trip out in the rain round our country roads they are filthy again. I have noticed neighbours cars that never get washed, never look any different. They have flat paint, dull trim and water never beads on them, but they have the same amount of grime on them from one week till the next. It never seem to build up. Maybe the rain does wash the top layer of crap off.
-
I stay inside and admire the beading on my car

I used to wash my car when it was raining in the sainsburys car wash that was undercover the one with lances etc (not swirling brush type) BUT i would take bucket with shampoo already squirted in it, and wash by hand then lance off with a polish and rinsh cycle and then if not busy which it never was dry it all and do glass and all plastics etc (mine was a big bumper model so lots of plastics lol) used to feel so good driving out with rain beading in all weathers
So find yourself an undercover wash bay and the weather wont stop you but the looks of other motorists might have you looking the other way lol
