right, the cars a 97 8v gti.. has had the crank postion sensor, ecu relay replaced, the throttle body has been cleaned... the vacuum hoses have been check and clear..
the problem...
The car will run fine/idle fine, but i get an intermittant fault where by i put my foot down on the motorway, feeding the power in.. and the car feels like its got no petrol, a slight jerk to the throttle.. if i floor it, it pulls ok..
I have tried the 3min reset of the throttlebody as per instructions, i have tried resetting the ecu.. i just dont know what the problem is...one thing im worried about, it damaging the engine before i throw the eaton on next month.. ideas people???
-
Misfire.
I'd be checking leads and plugs TBH.
-
Could be the throttle position sensor.
-
have the injectors pro cleaned!!
-
Fuel injection relay?
-
im kinda getting the same problem mate - and as above its leads and plugs next - im wondering if i had a dodgy set of plugs cos it didnt do it before i put the plugs on - and its the same with different leads, so i say plugs too!
hope the helps!
-
i did wonder about plugs and leads but then its intermittent which makes me think not... i'll whip them out and see what state they are in... im pretty sure they are in tidy nick though and sparking well.. hmmm
-
yh firstly try the plugs and leads, if not u want to check the airflow metre if you car has one.
-
same here pal - intermittant rev dropping and occasional power loss!
really odd,
im sure its not vac pipes but ya never know do ya, lol!
-
i had sort of the same problem it would seem asif it was misfiring when driving some times, was hard to start sometimes etc.
at night when its dark open the bonnet with it running and see if yo can see any sparks arounf the plugs on the distributer cap if not try spraying it with water and see if it changes atall,
i had the engine timiing checked and it wasnt that and was doing my head in and one night i looked under the bonnet and when it started misfiring i could see the spark around the leads on the cap and i just got a new cap and leads and it was perfect.

-
Right, i shall update you in the weekend, i have spare leads and plugs in the house and some carb cleaner... so i will hammer the maf etc and let you horrible lot know what the score is...
-
Take the dizzy cap off and check that and the rotor arm.
-
Nervous LOL @ all the above... i'm def missing something...
But back on topic, try a power relay vw p/n 165 906 381
Mine kept cutting out on the motorway, just sudden dip in power like fuel had been stopped for a split second and then back on again like everything was fine....

Alright boys and girls, less of this, there is a time and place for messing around and at the end of the day me and BB have to keep this place as tidy as possible. Granted we may fail in some areas, but if people report things we can help, and I'm not excused from the unnecessary posts, I contributed, but nonetheless, this topic on this thread is no closed, as BB said, continue helping BWL with his problems and maybe on day he will be my princess :lipsrsealed:

w.t.f

Underfuelling/too much air.
Same symptoms I had when my throttle body was over ported...on light throttle it would jerk and struggle, but with throttle open anything more than 1/4 it would be fine.

I want in too
OMG Boys you are soo naughty.... well the cars home so today ill try the new leads and plugs and look at perhaps an issue with maf...
-
But Boney has his own Russian Princess!
-
Well got home.. looked at the plugs which look in a fab state.. i was well impressed with them given the milage i do...
anyways...
The fault was.... a small gasket failure between the maf and the airbox.. i think its due to the constant removal of airbox when i was looking at mounting up the charger.. anyways.. i have used a bit of liquid gasket and tightened it up before coating with some more instant gasket..i've let it dry and bamm.. no dodgy accelaration...
Also...
A quick update on the valver...
bought a new battery for her.. started and runs fine.. has a small issue with the total closure but i can deal with that..
going to rub down a few bits on the car that i have primed and then maybe throw some paint on her tonight

 Glad ya got it sorted!
