Title: Wheel weights
Post by: percymon on 26 October 2009, 18:32
With lots of people running alternative wheels, either fulltime or for winter use, thought it might be useful tog et people weigh their spare wheels and record results on here. Wheel weight contributes to unsprung mass so there is some point you recording the various options.

So I reckon we have at least a set of 17 monzas in store currently (R32UK) so could people drag one onto the bathroom scales?

Will be happy to report the weight of my 17" seattles when I get the car.

a post from Red Robin on Mk5 forum

Re those VWR wheels, I was there today but we didn't get around to weighing them properly but having lifted the 12kg, 11kg, and 8kg rims, I reckon they're about 11kg. The Monza 18x8 are 12kg and the VWR rims are 19x8.5, so they're fairly light for their size.

Found an article in redline magazine in the newsagents earlier....

BBS CH 8 x 18    10.88kg each without tyre

Audi TT 7.5 x 17  13.15kg each without tyre (original 6 spoke design)

Then I stumbled across www.wheelweights.net that doesn't list many vw items but lots of aftermarket

Very few tyre manufacturers declare any weight for their tyres but some work by a US based guy on one of the Miata forums says typically a tyre is 8-9Kg, with very little difference in weight whether a 14" or 17".
