Saw a brand spanking new MK6 GTi with the works - xenons, leather etc.
However it had been converted by tuning specialists ABt. Have a guess at the price???
A whopping 38k of your finest!
Have VW gone mad? (OR this particular dealership?)
-
Project Kahn are emailing me over some designs for the mk6 gti be interesting to see how much thats going to cost me lol

I feel that Khan usually go too far! There are a couple of Range Rovers round me that have been done... they look cool, but are far too excessive looking. HUUUUUGE chrome wheels!!
Don't suppose you got a photo of the ABT one?
-
Atb.co.uk u can see all the designs il post pics when I get the Kahn info sent to me

Its at http://www.abt-sportsline.de/en/cars/abt-cars/ and not abt.co.uk

Abt body styling has always been crap - but their engine tuning is amongst the best. You want a drivable 330bhp engine which feels like it came from the factory that way and will last the life of the car - these are boys you want to talk to.

No offence, but what's behind your statement that these guys can do up to 330 bhp in the best way possible?

No worries. They work closely with Volkswagen/Audi to develop their engine conversions and have done since the days of the Beetle, Mk1 and Mk2. Both my 20 year old Mk2 and my Mk4 were tuned by Abt and both are still going strong with 90,000+ miles on each. I don't know about now, but they used to have factory approval on their conversions. They are certainly still sold as new cars through VW and Audi dealers in Germany. VW provide cars to Abt for development of their engines/suspension etc prior to the cars being launched.
They also prepare and race cars in DTM (which they won), German Formula 3, Nurburgring 24Hr and prep all the Polo Cup cars.
To be fair, 330bhp is what they are expecting from the Golf R engine. They offer a 300 hp upgrade for the Mk6 GTI. Downside is, they are expensive.
-
Thanks for the info. Can't see the prices anywhere though. How much are their conversions? 300 hp sounds like a lot going through the front wheels....
Also only UK stockist seems to be in Leeds?
Interesting also that the MkV is only offering conversions up to 230hp.

260hp (so about the same as the Scirocco R) costs about 1,500 Euro I think. There have been various Abt UK agents over the years - my Mk2 was looked after by a long-gone company called Mike Spence Motorsport near Reading. There was also a place in London called Mykoo in the 90's and then someone near Macclesfield about 10 years ago. I don't know who looks after them in the UK now. I speak to them direct because I bought my Mk4 from Abt in southern Germany who ordered it in RHD UK spec for me.
You can use their configurator to make a whole range of stylish VW/Audi cars look hideous:

This may be totally wrong, but I quite like that white one from the side profile... although it seems to have practically no spoiler.
Which doesn't really tally up with the rear photo, which has a BIG spoiler!
The rear bumper / exhausts look totally out of place, and the front looks a bit like a bad R copy.

You said drivable, I think 300hp through a standard GTI would struggle. I'm at 275 with a Revo remap and anymore would be difficult to get the power down. But 330hp through the R would be interesting and entertaining, I reckon it'd eat tyres though.

You know what I agree. Its actually aright from the side and front. Change the wheels (which aren't awful), get rid of that quad exhaust and silly rear diffuser and its not a bad looking mod.
As for engine upgrades. Wack a KO4 turbo (ED30, S3 turbo) with a bigger intercooler and some minor engine mods with a good remap and you can see 330bhp with no troubles. Ask Hurdy over in the MK5 section.

Did someone say Leeds???
I wasnt aware of a abt stockist in leeds :undecided:

Ok..... just spoke to ABT leeds and asked them from the price of a simple engine remap. Now you are all sitting down
£1397!!
260BHP that will get you. Want to push it anymore and they have some turbo upgrades coming out... although the gent on the end of the phone did say they would be very expensive, and involves shipping the car to Germany

Holy fcuk

260bhp is an optimistic figure at best as well with JUST a remap.
-

they did say that they would guarentee that figure... and the reason they are so expensive is that they spend lots and lots of money on r&d and are one of the few companies that work with both VW and Audi.
-

Revo reckon different Alan, 270'ish from their map.

And revo cost less than 500quid!

62 extra ponies from a remap and nothing else ! Bloody hell !
I'm not calling them lies, but would love to see someone who's had JUST a Revo remap stick on an independent RR.
-
I think revo show gains of around 55bhp. So I would say 265 is more realistic.
-
I'm impressed, this MK6 engine is much savier than I thought (I thought it was just a MK5 engine with a different cover and 10 more bph).
Interesting stuff chaps.

Which i why I is waiting for them to tune this one... rather than just do with the old one what nearly everyone with a MK5 Gti has been.

Actually they are quoting 275.

So with a single remap you can have more power than the new R. Makes you wonder what's the point in the R. All that extra money for 4WD, pfft.

I still think that's a rose tinted view on power gains though.
-
Agreed. I love the way Revo have a table showing gains from 200 to 275.
Their 275 was based on a car with stock 235, so a 17% gain. Applying 17% to the stock quoted figure of 207 gives 242 bhp.
Still a decent increase, but a few more mods required to get to Golf R levels.
-

Really!? Very sneaky and misleading on my book. 240 is what I would expect and a million times more belivable / realistic. Still remaps are a must, totally transford my car and increase might not sound a great deal but the diffrence in real world useable power was day and night.
Only problem you MK6 boys have is voiding your warrenty, which VW have cotton onto and will charge you an extortionat rate rate for a VWR remap. Mind you you do get a nic exhaust and an induction kit which I rekon not many MK6 will have. £1500 in one wack is a lot of money in anyones book though :(

Well the Revo mule car they tested was mine which they stated was running 230ish stock (dubious I know). Anyhoo, whatever is under the bonnet it is extremely rapid.....Revo normally do have a great rep for being on the money though (unlike Superchips).
My mate just had his MKV revo'd yesterday and they state 250 for the MKV, it doesn't feel as quick as mine that's for sure.

Thats what i find so funny with all these companys. People very rare look at the gain rather than the numbers.
-
You'll never get 250 on a MKV with just a remap, Revo can rant and rave all they want. I ran 250 (torque had a nice gain of 270) with a remap, full turbo back Milltek and carbon induction kit, problem is RRs are so inconstant its extremely hard to get an accurate figure. Anyway, enough b!tching and criticising.
Lets also bare in mind these cars are FWD and there is only so much power you can throw to the front wheels before it becomes unusable / wasted power / dangerous.
gossa, am I correct in saying that your warranty with VW is now void?
-
Probably if it developed a problem relating to the remap.....

I do have the select plus switch to switch it back to a stock map but I don't intend on taking it into the dealers for any work....
