Title: insurance qoute
Post by: Dan_uk on 25 October 2009, 09:33
so i got an insurance quote on the basis i have my licence and ive had it for a month.. im 23 yrs old ..

i done a qoute on a golf gti 1.9 this would be my first car as a first time driver...

now a couple was 150 area but a certain QUINN DIRECT qouted me the following (with the option to buy online with the details i had put in)

£247 deposit
£98 a month for 10 months 19% apr
£250 excess

so PA £1596

also above this is adrian flux all ive got is a PA qoute of £1090 and 250 excess .... so yes thats cheaper but where the monthly payment plan details would be it sais check with insurer!

if any one could just point me in the right direction here of what adrian flux mean by this and that the quote from quinn direct is a genuine qoute and the price is exactly the same as the qoute and theres no hidden questions etc .

thanks

i thought this was pretty good!! what do u guys think like i said it gave option to check and buy soo ,,, also above this

Excess is only paid if you make a claim to your insurers, so if you don't have an accident during the policy then minus the excess to any totals you're making out.

As for the prices, generally they are what they are shown, but myself have always found it safer to ring and get everything confirmed.

If they were going to refuse you for it it would be done after the initial quote has been given, usually quotes are given and made with several assumptions, which again is why I say it's better to ring up just to confirm everything, and if you're planning on modding your car, make sure you know how much certain things could go up by, and how much (if any) admin fees will be etc.

Not really, it depends on plenty of factors, this can include you age, where you live, driving history (if any), who else will be insured on the car (believe it or not, adding parents or partners etc can reduce it in many cases). I think for you it'll be better as you're older than your average teenager who passes at 17, but as you're still new to driving I wouldn't be surprised if it was still quite high, just ring several places up and see.

I would recommend not just using compare websites as well, going directly to the insurer is always best I find. Try Adrian Flux or HIC and give them a call, they do specialist insurance on GTis and modified cars.

My advice is based on what I personally know and have experienced so no refunds lol! But you're welcome chap.

Yes you can call and get a rough idea of what it'll cost without owning the car, I'd mention this to them when you first speak to someone, but personally I'd just use the online system for a quotation, then ring up when you have the car.

Why don't you give it a try? Get an online quote, ring up and confirm it, but state you're still looking for the car.

No problem chap, glad to help. I'm currently insured through Adrian Flux and so far been really happy with them, my excess is low, and so is my insurance, I have quite a heavily modded car too and everything is covered like for like which is what I like lol!

oh wow now that looks the dogs bollox! lol .. not a gti then ?? seems so many different specs its hard to keep up lol ... id gladly have something such as tht even a 1.6 driver just seems that theres a hell of alot more gti`s out there than anything else.. and i wud assume insurance quotes wudnt be so diff from something like your motor modded to a standard gti

Well in my current situation, this isn't a GTi, it's the model before a GTi, I asked for a quote on a GTi with the same mods and it came back £2K, I'm paying £650 for this with everything declared etc. So yeah insurance is a lot nicer on non-GTis, and too be honest, this still has a fair poke to it, this particular model has a 90bhp engine, the 8v GTi is 115bhp, so not 'that' much in it.

I'm after looks more than anything atm anyway, insurance is too high for me right now so make it look good and then get something more powerful when my insurance comes down.

well ill be frank im more after looks i mean a gti is ok for track but i like to cruise and look good while doing it lol ! and i know gti`s look the part but if i could get something such as your spec id be equally as pleased

something like your model wud be ideal .. but seems everywhere i look its gti this gti that id prefferbly like sumthing tht came looking like yours lol :D

Well just look for a 1.6/1.8, that's what I did, paid £900 for this back in Feb' last year, I've put a fair amount of money into it but looking pretty swish now, all  need to do is sort the feckin' engine out (replacement 1.8 engine as my piston rings have gone lol).

Post by: Dan_uk on 25 October 2009, 16:15
Yeah suppose ur right .. 1.6 shud do it ... if not a 1.8 im sure i can get lots of ideas and contacts off here when the time comes too it not be untill nxt year ... plus i looked at some gls and there not far off the gti look at all.. slam it rim it black it shine it ! :D

half way there youve been most helpfull mate... thanks alot!! one think i worry bout 2nd hand gti`s is they have been ragged to bollox spesh wen there up for 600 - 700 quid lol....

 If you just wanna have a sweet looking car, and build up NCB whilst you're at it I'd say leave the GTi alone for a bit, that's my plan.

quinn direct seem to be the cheapest insurers for the younger drivers but usually have quite a high excess, as long as you dont crash that shouldnt be a problem though haha
