What a day. Burnt my hand thinking it'd be a good idea to take the water header tank cap off after the car had been running (needed to top it up :s) went back to see my dad (he's a mechanic) and on the way home, waiting to get onto a roundabout, some bint in a Suzuki Vitara rear ended me :( not a f**kin' scratch on her car, number plate was hanging off of one side. Needless to say Georgie came off worse :(
(http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs222.snc1/6934_195133236256_549316256_4282512_3402843_n.jpg)
Doesn't look so bad there, but it's pretty bad. Boot won't shut so it's bungee roped down at the moment :s but what I'm worried about is when it comes to claim time. Does anyone know what the book value on a '91 GTI is? I'm assuming it's gonna be a writeoff but I wanna fight for her, anyone have any ideas?

Downer dude, hope you're ok.
Car can be repaired pretty easily...
She hit you so it's her fault , her insurance etc.
What's the spec, mileage 8v/16v of your golf?
Start compiling lists of cars similar to prove how much you would need to replace like for like.
My mate unscrewed his expansion tank after a good thrash and it went straight in his eye like a mk2 money shot, pmsl
Hope the mental image of this cheers you up a little...

Sorry to hear, I know what you're going through, A twonk in a merc rear ended me a few months back ( at a round about too!) .
It WILL be classed a write off if you let them get their way. Apparently you can fight it, but I caved in and was persuaded to take the cash as mine was an easyish repair (still not finished it  ).
Is the boot floor damaged? or is it 'only' the rear panel? I think my boot flooar was saved by the towbar & HUGE bumper iron that comes with the towbar.
How does it drive? If you don't mind driving around in a 'write off' (and prepared to have it taken through a SVA ) and can repair the damage, then you've scored.
I settled for £700, I bought the car for £750 a month before the twonk rear ended me, so I essentially paid £50 for the car, £20 for repair materials (sand paper and hammerite), £40 for SVA.
You'll need a receipt of sale to prove how much you paid for the car, they never asked to see this but asked if I had one.
You might need to find a few other cars of the SAME year & reg, VERY similar mileage, same colour, same 'extras', same valves, they never asked me for this but they 'searched' and found the average to be £700 for the GTD ( I also said I won't take any less ).
Remember it was NOT your fault, don't let them treat you as if it was your fault, don't let them push you around and most importantly be strong and forceful, but not abusive.
Also if it does get written off, make sure you can keep the car as part of the deal (even though it's yours they could still take it and scrap it! ).
oh and claim on HER insurance not yours otherwise you'll have lost any no claims you have (unless you're protected).

Me and the missus is OK, I hope the car can be repaired. Not entirely sure on the extent of the damage yet :(
It's a 185,000 mile car (tho the engine has done about 50k less) it's a H reg 8v
And I was quite happy as the girlfriend got home from uni today, but the mk2 money shot made it even better   thank u!
Jay: not sure if the boot floor is f**ked, I don't have a towbar :( it drives OK, trackings still fine, old man's a mechanic, he managed to keep my Fiesta on the road last year when I hit a towbar (was nasty) so I'll get him to assess the damage asap. I'm not gonna cave.
I don't have a receipt of sale :( i don't think...tho I may have chucked it in with the service history. Could just take my chances and say I have it and hope they don't ask for it.
Yea there's no way I'll let them take the car, even if it means I have to store it for a couple years til I finish uni and then drop the 1.8T in :-D
I'm only TPFT on my insurance anyway, so I couldn't claim if I wanted to (which I wouldn't anyway as I don't have any NCB yet)
Another question...in the crash I mentioned I had last year, it was my fault, I was claimed against...but again, being TPFT I didn't claim anything...but having the claim against me still writes off my NCB right?
-
If your father is a mechanic and you don't want the car listed as a write off, then you may be able to negociate with the lady that hit you, as she may want to protect her NCD. Make a rough guestimate of sensible repairs without taking the piss and see if she goes for it. You could both win.
-
That's it. I kinda wanna take the piss. I got f**ked over by a guy claiming personal injury when I hit him at 10mph...and this person didn't exactly seem nice, so I kinda wanna take the piss lol

and I just found this. Same year, MUCH higher mileage haha if I could get £1500 for it...even a grand I'd be pretty f**kin' happy
-
Having the crash last year and a claim against you then will f@ck your NCB. You will now also legally have to declare that you were the driver in a non-fault accident which also can increase your premium a little, how I don't know but mine has gone up £20 - £40 (depending on the company) if I put down I was in a non-fault accident.
Sucks balls even being the innocent person.
I was urged by a few people to make a claim against the guy, but I was still able to work, albeit in a bit of pain but I thought if I do I'd be like so many other c@nts that take the piss. My manager rear ended someone earlier this year, he got a call today saying she's making a personal injury claim, that's odd because her car only had a scratch and she drove off straight away after exchanging details, I'm not saying that she didn't but he bumped her at under 10mph (on a f@cking around about again).
-
I had a bad accident about 5yrs ago, hit a van head on, fractured my spine, cracked my sternum. Killed the family polo. Was judged as my fault and had a claim against me Fully comp and meant I had lost my no claims. Slightly more involved story but in the past now, older/wiser.
Cheered myself up with the thought that if I'd been driving a "flimsy" car I'd defo caught a bad case of the death.... Copper said he thought he was coming out to a fatality
But my point was I still had argue with insurance company who wanted to give me naff all for the car, finally got a decent figure albeit with loosing my NCD. Be firm, set dates that you want stuff done by. Keep a note of who you spoke to, what date etc. Sounds so much better when you say "I spoke to Darren on 31st who said, blah...." Rather than "I spoke to a boy the other day...."
Ps I wouldn't take the piss with getting repairs if you choose to sort it out yourself, too many w@nkers in the world already don't join them....
-
It's true, I don't wanna join the wayne kerrs...but you know what, if 80%, probably more of the bastards in this world think it neccessary to take whats not theirs...then why not join them for a good cause? Considering I'm paying £1800 a year on my Golf, a little help wouldnt go amiss
-
Speak to an accident specialist and get that injury claim in if your hurt
-
A bit off topic but in a car with ABSn if u stamp on the pedal, would the wheels lock up? Coz I didn't hear any screech, and obviously in those situations, u stamp on the brakes as hard as u can. So as far as I know, she didn't even attempt to brake, trying to gauge how fast she must have been going
-
With ABS the wheels can lock up but it takes some doing.
-
why not join them for a good cause?
That's how Nazi Germany started................
It is obviously your call. However the very fact that you are hesitating and asking for opinions on a forum indicates to me that you aren't 100% comfortable making a fake claim. Which if you cut to the chase is fraud. A fraud that costs us all money in the long run as it increases premiums to everyone so insurance companies can payout on these spurious claims. It is not a victimless crime.
-
and as every other f**ker is pushing up insurance policies and not giving a toss and either way insurance companies will end up bending us over and give it us in large portions
why not have your cut because it could be a while before you get the chance again

I f**king hate claim culture! In my eyes, you are only worthy of a payout if you were so damaged that you couldn't work - AND your work didn't have sick pay, then you should be compensated for the number days/weeks it would take until you are better at your standard work rate.
Whilst we are "getting our cut", why not commit a little extra fraud whilst we're at it, claim a little on the house insurance, perhaps go steal some tools from halfords - after all, everyone else does it, I'm just *getting my cut*

+1 :afro:
Well said that man. There is a high degree of compensation culture at the moment along with blame and accountability culture. Make me sick.

dont forget to sign on and work cash in hand aswell

Ok so update on the insurance claim...engineer phoned me today after assessing the car yesterday and offered me £600 (what I paid for, no mention of any receipts or anything) and I said no...I've been looking at same spec cars goin for between £800 and £1200 and he said £950, and I could buy the car back for 15%, so I get the car and £800...not a bad settlement I don't think
-
Sounds like a winner if you ask me ;)
-
Not too bad really, just hope your engine had never been swapped and not registered with the DVLA.... :lipsrsealed:
Time to do the SVA

If it has happened...what can they do? What will happen to me? Can I claim ignorance and say "it was like it when Ibought it?"
