i'm new to the world of vw and was looking under the car today and i think it may have a decat on it . so my question is where is the cat located ???
-
Between the downpipe and the centre box
-
up behind the bulkhead ???
-
Yeah, after the manifold.
-
its in the boot
-
check the glove box i think it's in there
-
it is direct under the gear leaver.
-
I think you need to put it on a vag com, that will tell you:-)
-
Nice answers there. But you can't legally de-cat a MKIII. All cars 1992 and onwards cannot be de-cat'd.
-
ive always been led to believe that its 2000 onwards that have to have the cat. i know it is 2000 on with a diesel.

nope it was '92 although if you pass emissions and the decat looks like a cat then no one will know/care

lol,
a related question...
on the mk3... if you do decat - and still pass emissions - will it not mess then running of the engine up cos there will be no reading from the lambda sensor - or does that stay on (cant remember if it is on the cat or not - co i know my mini ran like a dog with it off!! was fast though, lol)

the lambda stays in place it before the cat on the downpipe . your right though the engine would run like poo without it

dont answer if you dont know.. the sensor is on the cat which is why de-cats have the hole for them.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLF-MK3-2-0-8V-16V-VR6-EXHAUST-MILLTEK-DE-CAT-PIPE_W0QQitemZ230375335342QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item35a370a5ae

ugh dont get picky, the whole section is refferd to as the cat, yes its pre-cat but your words were 'its on the downpipe which it isnt..
-
yeah but its not in the cat either is it matey

i said 'its on the cat' referring to the section which is correct and you stated it was on the downpipe section which is WRONG. (ps you will fit in well round here )

nah its in the ashtray
-
Whatever happens you need a lambda sensor and they should be fitted before the cat as they monitor the mixture entering the cat.
-
I think Honda have two, one in front and one behind
-
you could fit a decat from a honda!!! you'll have sensors all over the shop then
