Well if you have had bad experience in the past put that down to the garage/tec who did it. Not every place is the same you cannot generalise it as VW. You have to rate each garage and each member of staff for that matter different. Not every person has the same skills, common sense etc.

give it a go yourself

Have a read through some of the various threads - might be a how-to lurking in there

Takes about 15 minutes to fit - only sticking point might be the VAGCOM coding bit

There are some "how tos" lurking about.
Dead easy.

No you don't need to disconnect the battery.
I fitted mine myself as I wanted to wrap the fiscon unit in a cloth and tape the wires so there would be no rattles.
10 minute job. Literally.

Sorry my bad. Its not a how to fit a fiscon, it was a how to fit a new head unit but that is all you need to know as the fiscon is plug and play.

Once the stereo is out you just plug the fiscon in to the back of the stereo and then route the mic. up the side of the A frame.
I know I keep saying it but it is literally a 10 minute job. You would kick yourself if you drove all the way down there for them to fit it, quicker than you could get your credit car out!!!
