Chavy, ffs his Golf has blue lights and gold wheels most of the halfwits with Saxos have more taste.
Erm, says the man who did this:

Yea tis a nice motor! I'm surprised I like it as its soft and spongy, nothing like the Golf or even the Pug before it!
As for keeping it shiny well its a daily so after it had its first clean & polish last Satdee I dont expect it will get another for some time!
Aint got the time for Farmville these days!
-
both tidy looking motors
bargain hunting at its best too :afro:
-
Yea didnt pay a lot for the car, but wheels and tyres cost £450
-
How much? I've seen these kicking about for £600-£1k but not sure how well they've been looked after... :undecided:
-
1200
FSH 5th owner and 119k miles

You know I said I wasnt going to do anything...........
Well I bought some interior woodtrim.
And getting a 4 spoke wheel.
Have to get some new headlights! The standard ones are poor!
So trying to get some projector types and if they aint any better will go for a HID set. Just shows how good the Hella twins are! (on golf)
Also got a leather interior in my sights on ebay!
Plus Billy now seems to want his remapped, after fitting some 18's the same as my Gold wheels!
So may do a joint thing with him up at Hinkley!

Where did you get the wood trim Len? Im trying to replace the wood trim in my audi with black but can't find any anywhere. I know it might be different but thought you may have purchased from a parts site that stock other cars too? :)
-
Got it off a guy on UK Passats mate, so sorry dont know of any sources. S/H and paid £25
Looks like it aint been fitted at all and came it seperate jiffy bags so maybe not all from same place.
I can ask him where he got it but he's out of country for a while now so will be a while before he answers.
-
Will also look at the jiffy bags to see if there are any clues on there! Will have a look lunchtime as its here with me coz I was gonna try and fit some to see how it looked.
-
Ok thanks bud! Just wondered incase theres a company that makes them for various cars. From Audi its £300 for either wood or black trim (I want to replace the wood with black)

Won't that look and feel really crap though?
I did think about covering it in vinyl :)

Yes!
Vinyl will be hard to get in all those little corners and may affect the gap/fit

not if you sand it back, prime and then spray :afro: a few of the Mk4 lads have done this with good results

No luck I'm afraid Dec. Jiffy bags had several names on them but none for trim stuff!
-
Nice car Len, must say, love my passat V5 as it drives so true.
What model have you got fella?
-
need glasses Martz?
Think it says in first post! - 1.8T Sport B5
Edit! - damn! Sorry Martz very remiss of me I hadnt said. :embarassed:
Gonna go correct now!

Hmm, I haven't had much luck in the past with spraying stuff.. only ever had crap results so never really bothered. Might just get some random bits of plastic to try on first because im 99% sure I will stuff it up if I try it on the actual trim first off! And having messy trim will be worse than the wood!

No problem buddy, thanks for having a look for me anyway :)
I think I will give vinyl a try as I have some sat at home anyway. I'll just heat it up, spray some water + fairy liquid combo everywhere and see how it comes out. It should come off easy enough if it doesnt go right anyway. At least that way if it is unsuccessful, it won't damage the trim and I can just put it back to how it was :)

You can see the 1.8T badge on the back of the car in the second pic anyway  So your original 'need glasses' comment still stands Len! (sorry martz, trying to cover it up )

Remap it. What is the engine code?
Sorry Martz was my mistake and have just edited my post!
Not sure of engine code, have to go on UK Passats to find out!
-
Cheers Dec! cant see the pics at work so had forgotten what the pics showed!
-
apparently its an AUG engine.
-
you mean AGU so 190bhp with a remap
-
Whatever!
Yea its low coz of a different size turbo? :undecided:
-
K04 conversion it is then!
Dan
-
Nah, I'd be more than happy with 190bhp in a Passat.
-
Fitted the glovebox with help from Billy!
Also swapped the wood trim which was a bugger! Well I had problems with the facia, then Billy had problems with the ashtray!
Picked up a 4 spoke steering wheel friday eve so that will be done next weekend.

The beer was well desreved after messing around with your psssat
Don'd forget what Rose said "YOUR NOT SPENDING ANY MORE MONEY ON THAT CAR" :lipsrsealed:
-
AND your Audi!
Ah well that was qualified by her after! She also said IF you are keeping it then maybe but have to get rid of Mi16 first!
-
And as you said headlights are a safety issue!

Oh on that subject maybe getting some angel eyes!
-
Well I did get some new headlights - DRL's!
But having trouble fitting them!
Also swapped cars in garage yesterday and the Passat will go in but not enough room to work on it.
So that an open door job and its a bit cold for that now!
-
Yea its low coz of a different size turbo? :undecided:
Yes, yours will have a KO3 turbo as opposed to the later models which came with a KO3s tubby which allows you to remap it higher ;)
FYI the MK5 GTI also has a KO3s turbo (ED30 has KO4).
-
Have fitted new headlights and was easier than Haynes said! Whats new there!
Pics to follow.
-
get rid of Mi16 first!
Only just saw this thread
but you know what to do Len ,ill happily collect
-
This thread is rubbish. All talk and no pics.

Recently serviced it myself and replaced brake pads all round. The fronts were easy but the rear caliper was a complete B'stard to get off!
-
Car got hit!
Parked in street outside house and not used coz battery went dead.
Went out yesterday morning to take battery off to charge it and note on windscreen.
Some neighbour had clipped rear with a hire van.
Broken rear light cluster and a scrape on bumper and wing.
Hire van insurance sounds like problems!

That sucks man, hope you get it sorted :)
Dan
-
If it wasnt for the broken tail lights it would match the scrape I did on the front wing!
-
Bought and fitted a new battery today so can use it again! Just have to get these damned insurance companies moving!
-
hassle the feckers len, the only way
-
Yea I know but as its getting close to a holiday away I am in no rush. Would rather take the Passat to Gatwick than the Golf, so will get it done after the hols.
-
Well the insurance companies finally sorted themselves out last week!
So its going in Saturday.
Its only minor work but we'll see how good the finish is!
-
hope it goes well. its always a bit of a concern when its insurance work. at least its the other party's insurance so you can insist on it being spot on.
how have the a8 wheels lasted? i had a set of 19" reps on my transporter a while ago and took them off after 2 months as the lacquer started to lift.
-
Wheels have been fine, no problems with them and car is always outside.
-
*cough* air ride *cough* nice car. :D
-
No I say No!
lemski its a cruising hack! Nice and comfy as it is.
Did 600 miles last weekend and no problems, no back ache or stiff neck, so its great as it is!
-
Air ride is suppose to be compfy. Try having race stiff coilovers on a daily. Not good. What bout a little drop??
-
Rubber and compressed air do not make comfy!
Hard and bouncy is what it is!
Cant do little drops, so has to stay as is!
-
standard ftw
-
I love it as it is!
It does exactly what I want it for.
As an all round compromise car its the best I ever had.
-
Well at least its a nice car :)
-
Got it back form repair shop Saturday and its looking good again!
-

Really might have to consider a chip!
R-tech Nik is in Swindon on Wednesday - leave your car with me ( & some money off course)
-
What figure did the remap add.
-
All I can say is when I took it for a test drive on a local dually I accelerated and went to change up thinking I was in 3rd. Nope was in fifth and it accelerated as fast as if I was in 3rd.
Also over the weekend driving around town I have never before experienced wheel spin in second!

I like!
placebo effect, you're just flooring it more!
-
Yea right!
I have suddenly changed my driving style after 40 odd years of driving? Hmmmmm
-
Yea right!
I have suddenly changed my driving style after 40 odd years of driving? Hmmmmm
Maybe not then, but the wheelspin in second was probably due to a bit of ice on the road.
Only kidding, sounds like it was really worth doing then!
-
Definitely No ICE here on Sunday!
-
Cant believe all you read on here! I never did get around to changing that steering wheel!
-

Well I managed to fit the Forge thingy yesterday! (after playing withe the Golf!)
Also replaced some vac hoses and the plugs! Good job I did the plugs as they were almost burnt out!
So car is ready for the JKM RR day now!
-
cool car len
-
Thanks but its pretty standard really!
-
yeah but looks good in black and is nice and clean  I'm easily impressed
-
Not very clean atm!
-
Oh I forgot! Also fitted the Pipercross air filter!
-
RR day yesterday!
Very pleased with results.
But looks like I need to change coil packs! Oh well good way to find out rather than have them fail on me.
-
Not posted in here for a while!
MOT today - failed on a CV boot!
Getting that fixed right away so should all be good.
-
Yea CV boot got sorted but still have a very annoying squeaky brake so will look at that at the weekend.
-
What did the barge make on the rollers then?
-
Barge? Thought that was Mk3 Golfs!
This car made 178.5 bhp and 206 lbs/ft
-

Sorry, tanker then
Sounds a decent figure that :afro:
-
Different from JKM's figures - down on bhp, but up on torque!
-

the joys of the rolling road lottery
-
Oh and Nick said it needs a new N75 valve or solenoid whatever!
Which on a Mk4 is really easy to change but on a Passat a complete pain in the arse!
-
Oh I just remembered, was on 95ron unleaded this time whereas at JKM it was on super!
So does the ordinary give more torque?
-
Well another job to do over weekend!
N75 valve to fit! Doesnt look an easy job either! Not in a Pissrat!
Oh well the joys of VAG ownership!
-
Didnt change N75 valve!
Had loads of work to do on Golf! (painting sills)
So that little job will wait as off to Cornwall this weekend.
-
Done those jobs today!
That N75 valve is a pig to do! But now sorted.
Also did an oil and filter change.
-
Had to drive to Chessington today. Nice little jaunt M4/M25 and got up to 36mpg!
Best I have ever seen in this car.
Well chuffed.
-
Had a hard blast down to Gatwick in very early hours!
Main reason for that was a diversion at the Bracknell/Ascot junction which meant I had to go back down the M3 to next junction of and back on again.
Ummmmm I can say what speed I did to catch up time again but the mpg only went down to 27 which I was very surprised with!
Seems faster I go the more efficient the car is!
-
Just been driving this mostly.
Did a mini service on Saturday, just an oil and filter change.
Fitted the aero wipers I got off Boney, looks good and work great!
-
Blow me Len didn't even know you had one
Lovely B4 right?
-
len your not driving it right!! mine does less than 30 on any run! :lipsrsealed:
-
Well Boney, he is a grand dad after all
-
Eat your heart out dark side boys! 48mpg this morning!
Though it was behind a big artic and doing approx 40mph.
Oh dont worry Boney it goes down to 17/18 when I thrash it!
Got 32mpg recently on a run down to Cornwall, Billy was on 42 in his diesel Passat.
-
Blow me Len didn't even know you had one
Lovely B4 right?
Nope B5.
Had it over 3 years now.
-
TBF Len I only see you at stoner with the blue mobil!
You going this year?
-
Hope to go to Stonor as have missed a couple of years!
-
Passed MOT so another year of enjoyable motoring!
Did have two advisories -
Chip in windscreen, which has been there since before I owned the car!
Nail in offside rear tyre! Was on the edge so had to have new tyre.
-
Did front brakes on Saturday, new discs and pads.
Was pulling to the left under heavy breaking, plus had a grinding noise especially when cold.
Thought it was the nearside with a problem so did that first, but nothing wrong there!
Moved over to the offside and when I got the disc off it had a badly pitted area on the outside of the disc about 20mm wide, that had not worn down. (inner face of disc) That pad also had a deeper groove in it.
No idea what caused this! Guess some grit or metal swarve got in between disc and pad? dunno!
Anyhow I now have excellent front brakes!
Decided I needed new front tyres as the nearside was almost bald!
-
Well now darn thing wouldnt start last night!
I actually knew the battery was down on power.
So had to use the Golf to go shopping in!
Anyway after shopping I decided to swap the batteries so that I could charge up the Passats battery.
What I found was about 4 inches deep of water lying in the skuttle!
Apparently I need to clean out the plenum drains, sounds like fun!
Also found out this could cause brake problems. Hmmmm
-
have fun with that len, and brakes, battery leads, ccm module to name but a few
-
Yea think I will! Surprised it still goes!
-
Depends whether it's actually got inside the car - you might have got it in time.
Are your footwells moist at all, Len?
-
Nope no water inside thanks!
Dunno how bad it would have to get to get inside as 4 inches is a lot of water!
-
Did those pesky plenum drains on Saturday morning, was an easy job.
Well the one on the drivers side was a little tricky with heater/aircon pipes in the way but managed to squeeze a finger in there.
Latex gloves FTW!
-
Major Problem!
Developed a bad misfire on Saturday, then last night this caused it to cut out and was VERY difficult to get started again.
ALL the lights on the dash came on and even turning over was very laboured, almost as if it wouldnt turn over at all.
I was surprised it started again and I managed to get it home.
Any ideas?
-
Well Billy checked the codes for me Sat morning and none that would cause any great problem like this!
So it went to the garage and we'll see what they find.
-
Garage just phoned me and two of the spark plugs have broken up!
Really, really hoping now that no bits have got into the engine!
-
Seems I have been lucky!
But still playing up when hot so coil packs next!
-
Back in the garage!
Now it will not idle, cuts out as soon as revs drop.
Will not restart straight away, takes a few minutes before it will start again.
So definitely not a happy bunny!
-
Garage cant find anything wrong!
Beginning to lose trust in this car now!
-
Camshaft / crank sensor?? On the dervs it would get too hot and wouldnt let the car restart until it got warm
Equally you got to love the reliable 1.8Ts :lipsrsealed:
-
Well its running absolutely fine now!
No idea what the problem was!
-
Is yours the older style 1.8T with an ignition amp on the back of the airbox? That normally gives you a misfire.
What codes were coming up out of interest?
-
That was the problem as there were no codes!
Changed the spark plugs and swapped back in my old set of coil packs and it was even worse!
So took it back to the garage and when they restarted it and checked codes again it was fine!
My only guess was a bit of debris from the failed plugs got onto an injector which then got dislodged when I revved the f**k out of it to get it down to the garage. Then the garage did a reset but they say they didnt!
-
Car has been working fine for a while now so thought I would treat it to a new grille.
-
Passed its MOT on Friday so another years motoring for the Passat! :afro:
-
Passed its MOT on Friday so another years motoring for the Passat! :afro:
Len those Passats always seem to pass the mot fine..... shame the mk3's don't seem as good
-
Did get a couple of extra advisories!
As well as the chip in the windscreen which has been there since I had the car, He added a rusty exhaust and some perished bushes.
Just normal wear stuff.
-
So it has started a new cutting out issue!
Cuts out when coming to a stop, but not always, sometimes the revs will drop right off and you think its gonna cut out but then recovers and idles fine.
Engine will restart straight away when it does cut out.
Getting codes checked later by Billy so will see if that shows anything.
-
Code 16486 - Mass air flow sensor low input
Looks like I need a new MAF sensor!
-
Unplug it and see if its better. That will confirm 100% its fcuked
Had it on an Octavia yesterday; although that was sapping power. Uplugged it, went for a drive and boom, he had full power again
-
Yea did that yesterday and no difference so new part required
-
Got new sensor from ECP this morning. Part had a surcharge of £24 so I swapped it over in their carpark and got my money back straight away!
And yes that fixed it!
-
Wonder how long the new MAF will last
-
Wonder how long the new MAF will last
that's not nice
I give it 3 months max!
-
Wonder how long the new MAF will last
that's not nice
2 weeks I reckon lol
I give it 3 months max!
-
Was a good one! Bosch.
If it only lasts that long it will be replaced under guarantee!
-
Did an oil and filter change yesterday, managed to do it without lifting the car!
(I have a slope in front of my garage)
-
hope you used the proper larger filter??
-
Yes I did! Its nearly twice the diameter of the old one!
-
Oh and also managed to get rid of that really, really annoying beep/warning on start up saying it needs a Service!
-
Oh and also managed to get rid of that really, really annoying beep/warning on start up saying it needs a Service!
I could of told you how to turn that off months ago! (well which buttons to press and which order)
-
Have done it before! Found it in the Owners Manual ( I think!) But this time I couldnt for the life of me find it!
So had to ask on UK Passats.
-
Well it did it again this morning!
Real bad loss of power like 1 or 2 pistons not firing. Was on the M4 and lost 20mph with my foot pressing harder!
No real jumping, nor misfiring. Could hear some clicking noises, then eventually it comes back and runs normally.
So this is the second time this has happened, first was over a year ago and a similar situation, just after a steep fast climb.
Got no chance of finding that fault!
-
Looks like this car is dead!
Turbo is definitely on its way out!
Probably going to break it as the engine and gearbox is sound.
-
that's not good news!
still worth some in parts though
-
Yea it brought us back from Gatwick Saturday with only a recurrence of that power down problem but I guess that killed the turbo!
Its still working but makes really loud whirring noises with revs then power dont come in until about 4000 revs.
Yes has loads of good parts to sell off!
Looks like Billy has found me a replacement which he will be looking at later.
-
Why not replace the turbo?
-
Why spend money on it when I'll probably get more for it by breaking it?
Has damage to front wing (by me) also damage to the rear bumper (also by me)
So it wont get top dollar and with 142k miles I would be lucky getting 300 notes for it
-
len I got £1000 for mine when i got rid earlier this year although I would of also broke it for parts to get the extra £££ if i din't get rid
-
Well we half stripped it yesterday!
-
Got it to the scrap yard Saturday morning and weighed it in!
Took the wheels off which Billy is having for winter wheels.
Now to sell all the bits we took off it!
