Hi
Picked up my 8v GTI at the weekend and runs fine apart from it appears to hit the rev limiter at 5,500rpm and it appears to rev high on the rev counter.
Not up to speed on my mk3's yet so any help would be great, before I attack it with a hammer at the weekend!
Have been told might be distributor but not sure.
Cheers
Dave

If the timing is out very very slightly it puts a limiter in so that it cant do damage to itself.
So it may be the ecu doing this, although it brings in a limiter at 5000rpm normally.
But i reckon it could be timing related.

I guess you mean it idle's high and won't rev over 5500 which would suggest a timing issue (or worst case the car's in fault mode to protect itself and it will need a scan for that)

cheers i'll have a look at the timing
