Title: Electric window problems
Post by: mk3valver on 21 October 2009, 16:52
Can anyone tell me where the drivers side electric window earth is in the cabin? I've had an intermitant fault with the window for ages but now it's given up all together and wont go down (well will if i persist with it for ages!) I can hear my motor making slight noise as I press the switch and the interior light dims so it's getting power.

I've noticed on here before people with the same problem which has been solved by fixing worn wires that go between the door and the car body, but mine hasn't got any worn wires so....?

I've now found a thread on another site where the guy had the same fault and "it was just a bad earth. The earth cable had come unplugged in the cabin where it connects up to the door loom". But I dont know where to find it?

Any help much appriciated! Thank you, Matt

You have to remove the bonnet handle and the plastic trim (footrest part) then have a look up towards where the wiring goes into the pillar and it will all become obvious. Well it did for me, depends how mechanically minded you are lol.

Lol...erm! I'm assuming it's just a follow on from what comes from the door? And the earth is brown? And have you had the same fault?

You said you've checked the wiring between the door and the pillar so I'm guessing you untwisted the loom and pulled it away from the pillar? If so you'll know that the loom plugs into a white circular block (if you like). On the inside of the car, there's a load of plugs that plug into the white block, I'm guessing this is where you'd locate the earth wire/s.

I've not had the same fault as my car's only a base spec 1.6 so it came with wind down windows but I fitted an electric window kit and had to plug the loom into the white blocks on the pillars.

It sounds like it could be a bad connection, but it also sounds like regulators.

Are you sure the cables haven't snapped???? It could be a bad earth but unlikely as the earth points clips into the brown block above the white block???
