Hi all,
I'm looking at swapping out an RCD 310 for an RCD 510 and having the Fiscon kit fitted. Can anybody tell me if this will provide full functionaility in terms of the MFD and steering wheel controls?
Anything it can't do that the factory fitted 'Telephone Preperation' can do?
Thanks,
Graeme
-
Fiscon has full control from MFSW and shows up in MFD but can't be answered from the phone button, you answer calls with the OK button.
-
The 'OK' button on the steering wheel?
-
the factory fitted has full voice command functionality. you can assign voice tags via the computer on the dash to any of your address book contacts.
i may be wrong, but yet to be told that the fiscon can do this.
("ok" button on the steering wheel is the one on the right. on the left are the phone button and also the voice dial button below it)
-
So you can use the buttons on the left of the wheel for volume up and down etc?
-
The 'OK' button on the steering wheel?
Yes mate, the Ok button on the wheel. You can answer a call, end a call, adjust volume during call etc with Fiscon. It is seemlessly integrated.
-
Thanks for the replies all. Looks like its exactly what I'm after.
Am ordering a GTD as a company car this week, one of the lease companies has the colour I want (Carbon Grey) for delivery in 2 weeks but it doesn't have the RCD510 which I did want, but I'm impatient and didn't fancy waiting until Jan/Feb for the car.
Would have got the GTI but company car tax and fuel costs bit high compared with the GTD.

The Fiscon website isn't too clear on how it operates. Do you transfer your contact numbers from your phone to the Fiscon, and then use the touchscreen to make calls if necessary? The 'answering a call' does seem to be well integrated.

once its sync'd with your phone all your numbers update in the unit everytime you connect i.e. get in the car
-
Nice! Thanks for that.
-
Anyone know if the Fiscon syncs to Blackberrys?
Specifically the Storm?
The OEM Belutooth set-up doesn't apparently.
-
Anyone with a fiscon know if it can assign voice tags to numbers and dial numbers that way? Much safer than using the touch screen to dial a number.
Note you should be able to dial via the MFD as well.
-
i have the BB curve. mfsw doesnt work the answer button, but works the volume. no text messages on mfd either. apart from that its great

So how do you answer?
On the 510?
I'm not bothered about the MFSW...as long as you can answer a call without getting 3 points!
-
the big green button on the screen

...and the other functionality of finding contacts etc all works from the screen?

yep i will get some pics up when i get a chance.. but you can dial from the onscreen tounch pad, last dialled/missed calls/etc etc. Store 6 speed dial numbers, call the police with one touch (emergency call).
-
Good to know...thanks.
Pics would be even better!

No I've never seen anything relating to that on the fiscon.
As you say you can of course dial via the MFD without taking your hands off the wheel.
Although touching the screen is no different to adjusting a stereo that doesn't have steering wheel controls.
-
Just be careful when pressing the red hang-up button on the 510 because it turns into the SOS / Emergency call button once you've hung up. I have looked down a couple of times and seen the 'are you sure you want to make an emergency call' prompt because I've held my finger on the hang up button for too long (why I don't use the 'OK' button on the MFSW to terminate the call I don't know - still getting used to it!)
-
I can answer calls from the MFSW by pressing the OK button and scroll through contacts and dial from the MFD so all legal!

try this out. on the MFD when scrolling through your contacts, if you keep the up or down button held down, it jumps from letter to letter, rather than go through each contact. nice time saver that.

looking at getting new golf r when it hits downundernext year.
about to put an order in and contemplating options .
I have an Iphone 3gs and wonder if was fitted out with the tom tom application and use the fiscon bletooth kit would the tom tom show on screen of the head unit ?
Apart from the built in sat nav are there any other differences b/n rns 510 and rcd 510 I do believe there are some changes about to occur in both units

No such luck I'm afraid! Its purely an audio transmitting device - not sending your screen to the RNS. That would be something special!
The main difference other than Sat Nav between the RNS and RCD is that the RNS has a 30gb hard disk built in. About 10gb of this is reserved for the Sat Nav software, but the other 20gb is free to store music on. You can stick an SD card in the unit and copy the contents to the HD.

If you have the tomtom app, the directions will be audible through the car speakers not the phone. If you have the tomtom car cradle then the iphone pairs to the cradle via bluetooth which can mean that the bluetooth doesn't connect to the Fiscon, i'm just tinkering to see if I can pair it to both simultaneously.

Sorry for bringing this back to the top. Going to add Fiscon and will have the tomtom car cradle. Did you sort the simultaneous pairing

Hi R32UK,
I was hoping you could maybe post those pictures. I just got a VW with an RCD-510 unit. It currently has a 9W2 installed - which does not allow for voice dialing or phone book downloading or using RCD-510's touchscreen interface to do anything with the phone.
I would like to see what FISCON Basic Plus can do for me in regards to get all of the cool features such as A2DP (I have but I would lose if I upgraded to 9W3), phone book downloading, RCD-510 touchscreen dialing and answering, SMS, voice dialing, etc.
Would I be able to do all of that? Could I see what it looks like? I am very curious. Nearly every website just reviews FISCON with RNS-510 (navigation). BTW, I also have a White DIS - not sure if that makes a difference for any of those features.
Thank you very much!
Jim

Hi there pal,
You do realise I also have the RNS510 (sat nav) version?
If thats ok then I would be happy to post pics.. just let me know what you require require pictures of. I am away this weekend but back on Sunday so may be next week for pics
-
devonian69 I was stuck in a car park waiting for my son in the dentist while reading your post so what better way to pass the time, than by doing some videos for you
They are as exciting as paint dry but hey its my very first ones and hopefully shows you what you are looking for.
A few folk have said their telephone button on the MFSW doesn't work so hopefully they will see it answers and drops calls for me with the Fiscon.
The videos are with the RCD510 and Fiscon Basic Plus. If you want any other feature shown just give me shout. (The wife is off work with me this week so I'll do anything to get out of cleaning and shopping  )

Ahhh... My bad! Sorry!!
I did not notice that you had the RNS . I have seen lots of pictures with an RNS and heard that it is awesome with RNS. I just want to make sure all of that awesomeness is also available in the RCD (except for the Navigation part).
Thank you, but you do not need to take pictures for me. Although, I am sure there are plenty of other people who would appreciate them.
Thank you for your response!!

p3asa, you are a legend! sweet video matey
-
p3asa!! You rule!
Thank you very much! That does clear up a lot of things for me. It just raises one more flag on my end and I am not sure you can answer it... I am in the US and my RCD-510 does not have a "Phone" button. I instead have a "Sat" button for Satellite radio. Can I scratch off "Sat" and write in "Phone" and upgrade to Fiscon Basic Plus??
Are you able to receive SMS messages on your in dash display? I believe its called the MFI (not sure though). The website for the product says you can get SMS (read and respond with a quick prewritten response).
I am still amazed at the videos! Thank you sooo much!
Jim
http://www.martnet.com/~morgovsk/images/2010Jetta/Photo002.jpg - this is not my picture I just did a search but this is what mine looks like.

Sorry not sure re your Sat radio button.
Email Rich at Fiscon, he seems to be able to answer most queries http://www.fiscon.co.uk/home (http://www.fiscon.co.uk/home)
As for SMS, that is a strange one. When I first installed mine I would get SMS on the dash display (MFD) if a text arrived and I could view it and reply with a ready made reply. However its as if the memory is now full and I get no notification of a new text and if I view SMS's on the MFD it seems to be very old ones that are in there!!!
Probably if I had a good nosey around I might be able to delete the current SMS's to allow more in but not had a chance. I'll see what I can do.
-
Great! I actually emailed support at kufatec and Rich replied. I hope to get that straightened out. Your videos got me wanting the Fiscon installed! Looks great!
Can you do voice dialing as well? Anything else that seems a bit buggy or anything?
Thank you!
-
So far I've not found any bugs. It just does its job flawlessly.
It sounds crystal clear to the folk I have been on the phone to. Most disbelieve I am driving but then that could be the Golf being that quiet ;)
Voice dialling is only available on the RNS as far as I know.
A2DP works but I rarely use it as it isn't as clear as the onboard music options. However the kids like to pair their phones to the unit and stream their music so they can choose what to listen to from the back.
Back to your unit not having a phone button, how do you access the phone functions if you have the VW bluetooth system as that is what the Fiscon unit works on!! Maybe worthwhile going to your local dealer and seeing how that system works.
-
I just bought a Jetta Sportwagen (Golf Estate in Europe) TDI. Incredible car... I drove a Golf for 4 years and before that I had a Passat. All great cars!
My car only has the 9W2 bluetooth. My car does not have 9W3. I think it was a design slip and they are now committed to what they did. Originally they sold the Jetta Sportwagen TDI as having everything the Sedan had but it wasn't true. The sedan has 9W3 (which allows for voice dialing with RNS).
So as of right now I can only answer incoming calls from the steering wheel. I cannot make any calls from the car - I have to make the call on the phone while its paired to the car.
I think I'll give Rich a call - that may be the easiest way to find out about the "Sat" vs "Phone" button.

Is that the clip that came with the Fiscon? Mine doesn't look as if it'll clip on there (it has a sort of loop on the back curving outwards, if that makes sense).
-
Yeah. Mine came with a pack of 3 clips, this being the middle size if I remember correctly.
-
Thanks, hadn't noticed there was a smaller clip!
Also, how did you feed your wire from the stereo? Mine comes out under the steering column, then out under the fuse box panel.
-

Basically the same. then just peel the rubber door seal back a wee bit and run it up the A frame.
The only bit the wire can be seen at is the bit it comes out of underneath the fuse box till it reaches the door hinge side. However the trim splits at this part and you can run it in this channel and its not seen that much!!
-
Thanks, got it neatened up today. I have actually managed to have no wire showing...
