Title: New paintwork question
Post by: VWKev on 20 October 2009, 12:43
Hi all, my new car is not even a week old yet, I was wondering when I can start looking after her in regards to detailing. I want to be able to give her a wash and polish and wax. I have heard that the paintwork needs a few weeks to settle/cure, is this true ? If so, or if not, when could I start looking after her ?

straight away really, if your car has recently been sprayed then yes you need to leave it a while before you start hitting it with polishes, but you can start putting sealants and waxs on now, the more protection you put on now will save your paint in the long run  pm chris (waxamomo) he'll sort you out with everything you'll need;) also look on www.i4detailing.co.uk and matt will sort you out too.

As it's a new car it won't need to settle, the paint will have been on for long enough now. You can start detailing her now!

Do you have any car cleaning products? If not, then the products can add up in value quite quick so it might be worth buying bit by bit. You definately need 2 buckets, a quality shampoo, a good wash mitt, and a good drying towel. This will at least enable you to give her a good wash knowing you won't cause any damage.

Then it's up to you to what polish and wax you want to buy.

There are also other products you may want to add like Clay, wheel cleaner, tyre gel, a glaze, a quick detailer, spray sealant etc etc.

If you want any advice for what products to go for, or if you have a few idea's already, drop me a PM or e-mail and i'll help out all I can.

I clayed & waxed mine the day after I picked it up from the dealer!  :nerd: Then didn't wash it for a fortnight & when I did wash it I waxed it again with the AG HD...........I rate this stuff!

Zymol'd my R32 & gotta say the finish on my GTI was just as good with HD.

One Zymol product I do like is HD cleanse, but you need only use this stuff once/twice a year. (It's good for light scratches too)
