Morning all,
where to start, at the beginning would help I suppose!!
I bought some refurbished 18"VW wheels off a mate, then started to experience really violent vibrations on osf, had the wheels balanced and this seemed to cure the problem, then I drove it to Italy and back, and the vibrations came back (though not as bad) so I have swapped the wheels front to back, PROBLEM SOLVED, drive is as smooth as
then a couple of weeks ago I started to notice a "hollow" woo woo noise in the same place (osf), had my brakes checked, they are fine, the noise got worse so I had the bearing changed, the noise is quieter, but its getting worse again, I do have a slow puncture on that wheel, and have been told that there is some slight "stepping?" to the inside of the tyre.(inflating the tyre does not help)
so the plan now is to swap the two front wheels over to see if the noise follows the wheel, failing that, I am at a loss.
very sorry if I have posted in the wrong section but I dont really know where to post it!!
I wheelie hope you can help

2 guesses, 1) missing spigot rings, 2) tyre faulty.

OK, Daddy has swapped the wheels over this morning and noise is still there, he's had a bit of a look, but he's no mechanic!!
he says my cv boot is split, will this cause the noise?
and could someone be very kind enough to give step by step destructions on how to change it myself?
   pweeese

nothing fantastic, 225/40 18" dont know make?
-
My guess would a be tyre issue.

am gonna have the CV boot done this morning, might push the boat out and have them both done , then I know its done...
then I'll get a new tyre on.

Best not to mix tyres, if you cant get a match you should replace both tyres on that axle. (front or back)
-
....Is exactly what the man at the tyre shop said....
Then told me it would be £120 to fit both new tyres, my powers of persuasion got him down to £95,
Thats what you get for not accepting credit cards :smug:
I never did get the CV boot done, Will get it done for MOT
Thanks all very much for your advice, I'm sure I'll be back

So has the new tyres solved your problem?
-
yesh

Iirc federals (might be wrong) tend to change shape which causes a really harsh road noise to the point I thought it was a wheel bearing in my mates lupo
