Hi
Ive got a P reg (1996) 8v GTI and Im thinking of changing my front discs soon so ive checked the internet for a new set, but my Haynes manual says the dimensions are; Diameter - 280mm and Thickness - 22mm. On the internet is only gives these dimensions for models up to '93!?
For my year it says i need diameter 288mm and thickness 25m?
Has anybody changed them recently and know what ones i need to get?
Cheers

go to GSF and get the brembo grooved discs and greenstuff pads... doesn't cost that much in comparison to 'normal' ones and the braking is significantly improved
-
Has much is that all together mate?
-
mine is a 95 with ADY engine + has 280 discs, yours might be 288 though
whatever said 280 was only upto 93 is wrong
could give vw/decent parts place a call+ quote your reg no to get definative answer

Yeh thats prob the best idea ill just give VW a ring. Mines an AGG engine if that makes any difference.
-
i think most aggs had 288s but best to make sure
-
99% sure yours will be 288.

Mine is sep 95 with agg and 280 discs, measure them if your not sure.

A glance at the callipers will tell you...
If they have a sort of silver spring clip (like a formed thick wire) on the outside of the calliper, visible, they are the 288mm/312mm type ATE callipers.
If not, they are 280s.
As for Greenstuff pads...I managed to get mine to de-laminate - the pad came off the backing.
They worked well enough, and didn't produce much dust..but I'd still not fit them again.
Freodo DS2500s work especially well.

I use Mintex, good performance and value for money.

Very true.
Their standard replacement stuff isn't bad, 1144s very good and 1155s superb.

I can say without a doubt they should be 288mm ones mate. Do not get the 280mm ones, they were on the earlier MK3s.

just changed mine, and my car is an AGG 1996 'P', and it has the 288mm discs...

according to my vw bible.. if it has oval side repeaters its 100% 288mm and squares mean 280mm
oh and i guess some places list 280mm to 1993 as that's when the vr6 stopped using that size
