will the plastic exterior plastic (on doors, arches, and bumpers) bits just pull off, is it glue or will i need filler?
-
From the many threads I have read on here regarding de arching the GTi's you will need to heat the glue under the plastic then remove plastic parts and polish/cut out the marks left by the glue. Hope this helps Deano

Arches are pop riveted, door trims clip on and you will need a CL set to replace them.

+1 - Rivets will need to be drilled out to remove the arches, and the door trims are held on by clips, but when de-arching a Mk3 you need the CL side trims from front to back.
Although if you have an SE like your sig suggests, for the love of god leave them on, they look so much better!

i don't really want plastic on it, unless there is somehow i can get them to green..
forgot to say im goin for the 'euro' look, all smooth and that..

Underneath the door trims are holes which will need welding up and plating over, will look crap and very plain without them.

and if you remove the arches, door trims etc your quite likely to find rust or knackered paint!! so remove them if you don't mind some paint time

i had lots of rust when i removed mine
have spent hours sanding.filling and painting still not really happy with them think its body shop time

If you remove the door trim you will see a large recess plus 4 holes, you will need that welded over and that will not be easy, it will be a expensive job to get it looking right.

think i'll just stick to the plastic trim yet, plastics gone bit grey so will have to find the back to black out..
the thing is, my dad used to be a mechanic back in the day and he gave the car a once over and no rust at all, so if the car does need any work doing, he's doing it whether he likes it or not..
