Hi all,
I ordered my GTI at the beginning of August, I now have been given a ‘provisional’ build week, week 49 so end of November – early December. In my eyes this is rather a long wait! Has anyone else waited a similar period of time? Or even longer? I'm new to this site and was just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me.
Also I ordered mine without cruise control, a decision i have since come to regret. Is it possible to have this installed as an after option?
-
I ordered May 1 and finally got it mid-August, so a 3.5 month wait. Well worth it, however
-
I ordered July, was built this week, so hopefully see it in the next couple of weeks, which should work out to about the same wait time as Frogs.
See the thread on "Calling all August orders"

Had my cruise fitted on the mk5 by Awesome Gti when they did an Apr remap, Think it was about £120 3 years ago

Phone your dealer.
Get the VW commision number off them
Phone VW customer service on Tuesday. (latest updates on computer on Tuesdays)
Ask what it says for your build week and cars status.
Get yourself onto the August thread LINK (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=130186.140) and give us an update
Just as a note your wait does not seem over the top to me from the list on the August thread i have compiled.
May i add you to the August list?

when i had a test drive on friday, told the dealer i want it on march 17th for finance and insurance purposes, he told me the car needs to be ordered by at least the second week of november! Seems a long time to me, but i am also contemplating a GT 160, told me that would need ordering last week in nov 1st week of dec so not massive difference.
-
Right I've rung my stealer and their gonna send me the commission number, so I can ring vw customer services.
Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully I'll she her before end of December, so will make a cracking Christmas present
Yeah please add me to the August list, cheers.

My dealer, part of Inchcape group, actually have a list of retro fits they undertake - they list cruise as £153 fitted incl VAT, thats cheaper than the factory !

is quite a long time... mine was ordered 1st week of september and getting build week 46
-
Mr Joe, Don't believe all the stealer tells you I ordered on the 17th July and have so far had Build weeks of 38,40 and now 43. Beginning to wonder if it'll ever come!

...which is better than installing yourself and invalidating your 3yr warranty :smug:

would that not only apply to the bits you fitted rather than the entire car?? e.g say if your window motor failed surely that would still be covered? :undecided:

If its not a definite build date then you should be able to add cruise control to the order.
If you can't then at least you know you have a "definite" build date.
Phone your dealer.
Edit: oops maybe I should have read the whole thread before replying

Location: Italy if true Italy and UK will be different.

There is a two fold order system, first stage is locking the spec so it's available for vw Germany to issue a possible but unconfirmed build date. This basically adds it to the factory order list so they know what parts to procure ahead. Then 4-5 weeks ahead of build the order becomes confirmed and a true build week is assigned, it's basically found it's place on the line and the bits are ordered!

i got mine 2 weeks after i ordered it in august. there was a slection of ready built ones on there database. didnt wnt any extras, apart from metallic and upgrade alloys so i got what i wanted at the superb time. not really fussed about getting anything else as its not the main car that i use. no point in extras for me as probably in 3yrs time it will probably be exchanged for something else, so on. we never keep cars for more than 3yrs but the last golf tdi we had was almost 5 yrs old. at the time mark 55 gti wasn't out yet so we got the best tdi- i wish we had waited those 1,2 months if that. we got 7 grand for it considering it was caputt due to my bro putting petrol in it. luckily dealers didnt have a clue.
if your not fussed on what extras you want- there are a few about. quotes of 46 wks or so is bloody long. you would get sick of waiting. in th4 6 wks you'd probably spent 10 full weeks thinkin about it. i only had to think about it for 2 weeks. by 46 wks there will be more gti's on the road so you'd feel less unique. so far i haven't seen any gti's as yet.

And now in english
-
denyason - build week 46 means that the car will be built in the 46th week of the year. not that the buyer has to wait 46 weeks for it to be built!
why not wait an extra 4 to 6 weeks longer than you did so that people spending their hard earned can have exactly the car they want? better than spend over 20k on a compromise?
-
I think from previous posts denyason actually bought the car i was offered in early August.

u could be right. black metallic and the standard 17 inch alloys which they swapped to 18's.
-
That sounds like the one. It was one of only two cars on the system at the time the day i asked. The other was black metallic with 18s, winter & lux pack, leather & satnav. All the local delaers i went to, to enquire about it would not do a deal i was happy with. So i decided to look down south and decided to get what i wanted as a factory order and in the process got a decent discount too.

what dealer mate?mine was in newcastle.got 7 grand for a golf 2.0 tdi mark 5 which is pretty good considering my brother had put petrol in it. luckily the dealer didnt know about it.

I tried Benfield Newcastle and silverlink, Cars of hexham (another benfield) (all benfield dealers work independent so do compete with each other they don't like helping each other out ) & also tried Pulman Durham.

ah a fellow geordie. it was at benfield- i thought the service was pretty good, v friendly. they even let me off as i'd lost my old certificate - would of meant i couldnt get the car. funny thing was- my old golf -the battery of the remote had died just a wk b4.
-
I too tried Benfield and Pulman in Durham.
Both were friendly and stuff [the former offered some loot off as I knew someone who bought an Eos from them!] but very coy on availability and didn't really want to take my money.

Must admit the guy at Pulmans i went to speak too could have not been more helpful or enthusiastic. He just could not get cars in the time scale i was looking at. I would happly go see him about new cars in the future though seemed a genuine bloke rare in the car trade  Benfield Newcastle was a different matter.
The fun part is working out what to do for servicing if i decide i want a VW stamp as i have heard ok but also real bad things about both from trade contacts.
