is they a way to make a 1.8 driver into a 1.8 gti or not
coz i think my dads gettin me a 1.8 driver n i was curious
on how much work it wud involve or is it a waste of time
-
any engine can go into any car with enough time , money and expertise.? 8)
i think the general feeling when it comes to this sort of situation tho is that it would be a whole lot cheaper to just go and buy a gti in the first place.? ;)
things that need upgrading would be, suspension, brakes, exhaust to name but a few? :-\

It depends on how good a car you get to start with and how much you love it, plus, you might get hammered on insurance for an upgrade :-\

To convert a driver into a Gti you'd have to change the suspension, fuel system (electric pump as opposed to mechanical),cylinder head, interior, trim.. blah, blah. It will always be a driver and you'd be best off just getting a Gti. Probably best to keep it for a while and upgrade to a Gti later.

and dont even be tempted to put gti badges on it! ;D

driver plans out the window

my uncles got a buyer for the polo 300quid
I get 200 a week with the job i am on at the mo
150 off job centre next week for havin a job 13weeks
100quid for doin a maths test when i was on dole lol
so I am gettin a gti roughly 3-4weeks when i find the right one
i cant bloody wait

i thought in order to convert the 1.8 driver to the 1.8 8v gti you had to change the cylinder head and the wiring loom along with the extra bits?
so that it becomes an injection engine? ???

and dont even be tempted to put gti badges on it!? ;D
i put new badges on mine..... :-[

For the price of a GTI swap you might as well go the extra mile and get a 1.8T motor ;) Thats the road im going down. A set of coil-over will change solve the break conversion, a rear disk conversion is piss easy (doing one soon) And a front break conversion to somthing like a Big break kit will only cost a few hundred if you can do it your self.
Richgit had a 1.6 driver, He now has a 280BHP turbo lump in the front ;)
